Bud & Leema
Hello! We are Bud and Leema from Oklahoma
Dear Birth Mother: We cannot express our joy of becoming adoptive parents in words. We have been together for almost 20 year and have always dreamed of being parents and raising a family together. You are helping us fulfill that dream.
We don’t know you and you don’t know us, but we can’t wait to get to know you throughout this journey. We are humbled and honored to see the strength and courage that you have to take this step. We promise you that we will always love and protect your baby.
20 years of togetherness: Our story began 21 years ago and eight thousand miles away. We first met on a train in 1997 in India. The next part will sound like the plot of a cheesy rom-com, but this really happened! In 1998, Bud saved Leema from a guy who was harassing her on the street. That really sealed the deal for Bud!
We began dating the following year and have been together since then. We tied the knot in 2005, the year Bud moved to the US to pursue his Ph.D. Leema joined him a year later. We moved to Oklahoma in 2011 where Bud works as a scientist in the research division of a corporation. Leema is finishing her associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. The easy pace of Oklahoma life gives us the opportunity to spend time with family and friends, to travel, and have meaningful hobbies.
Fun Facts About Us:
• Leema likes the ocean whereas Bud likes mountains.
• Hiking, rafting, kayaking, snorkeling, and scuba diving are our favorite activities.
• We visit India every other year to see our family and childhood friends.
• Although we live away from our family, we have found our new family in our friends.
• Bud plays the guitar and Leema is trained in Indian classical musing.
• While Leema dances well, Bud makes up for his lack of skills with his never-ending energy.
• Leema loves scary movies that frighten Bud. Bud likes action flicks that bore Leema.
• We are both foodies.
I had a very ordinary life, growing up in a modest household in India, until I met Leema and fell head over heels in love. I wanted to become a better person for her. So, I excelled in my education and came to the US to get a PhD in Chemistry. Today, I work as a scientist in a large corporation studying air quality. If you like the air you breathe, you can thank me!
I have too much energy for my own good and I cannot sit idle. I do serious photography, I play the guitar, I am a voracious reader, I write short stories, I am a certified scuba diver, I grow vegetables in my garden, I love whitewater rafting and kayaking, and I have always dreamed of doing these activities with my future child. I am eternally grateful to you for making my dreams come true. I cannot wait to teach our future child how to kayak, how to compose a photo, and how to pick the D chord on guitar!
Written by Leema: Bud has been my best friend for the last twenty years and I cannot imagine a life without him. He has a great sense of humor and can always make me laugh. He is a happy person by nature and he gets excited by the small things in life.
Although he is a fun-loving person, he is also very sensitive and thoughtful. He writes poetry and short stories in his spare time and tears up from watching a heartwarming movie such as UP. He loves children and children love him because he can play with them nonstop. I am glad that I found someone who makes me feel the best, happiest, and safest.
Fun Facts About Me:
• I secretly want to become a standup comedian someday!
• Every Saturday morning, I spend 17 minutes making my special coffee.
• I love to play piano music on my guitar.
• I love waking up early to listen to birds chirping.
• At a friend’s wedding, I danced for two hours without knowing a single song they played.
• I always think about how we would escape a zombie apocalypse.
• I’m frugal on myself, but, I splurge on my family and friends.
I grew up in India with my parents and my little brother. Currently, I am pursuing an Associate degree in Medical Technology, and I’ll graduate next July. After a long break, going back to school was challenging, but I always like to take challenges.
I believe I should keep improving myself every day, so I can be a better person and a better mother for our future child. I am an honest and grounded person who believes in simplicity. A kind heart and an intelligent mind are two most important qualities of a human being. I learned this from my mother and will teach this to my future child as well.
Written by Bud: Leema is the kindest person I have ever known. This may sound like a cliché, but she only wishes well for people. She is extremely hard working once she sets her mind on something. She had to stay home when I was a graduate student as we could not afford her college tuition. It was difficult for her to go back to college after a five-year break, however, she overcame the challenge through her dedication and now she is in the top 10% of her class.
Leema can cook delicious dishes from any cuisine ranging from Italian almond biscotti to Indian chicken biriyani to American pumpkin roll. I personally blame her cooking for me never having a six-pack!
I know that she will be a great mother as she has always wanted to be one. She practically raised her younger brother who is 15 years younger than her. She is a caring person and she will be a very loving and caring mother.
Fun Facts About Me:
• I am a huge foodie!
• When I am alone, I pretend that I am singing in front of thousands of my fans.
• I love dancing and I dance like nobody’s watching!
• Swimming is my favorite activity!
• My friends say that I am a good listener.
• I cannot wait to share my interests whether it is singing or swimming or cooking or a not so perfect dance step, with our future child.
Our Loving Families
Our Family and Friends: Both of our families live in India. Given the long travel time, we cannot visit India as often as we’d like, however, we visit India every other year. Bud has a large family in India and his family get-togethers routinely have 40 people.
What Leema’s family lacks in numbers, makes up in craziness! We get overwhelmed by love every time we visit India.
Our friends in Oklahoma are our other family. Perhaps because both of us value our relationships with our loved ones, we are fortunate to have a number of close friends. With our friends, we do cookouts, vacation in remote cabins, explore restaurants, go to stand-up comedy shows, host Game of Thrones parties, and above all, spend hours together hanging out. We wouldn’t trade these friends for anything!
Our Home and Closing Thoughts
Our Home & Community: We live in a quiet neighborhood in a large town in northern Oklahoma. The town is close to a large city, yet far enough away that it feels like living in the country. It is not uncommon to encounter deer while biking in trails, find rabbits eating vegetables from our garden, and have hummingbirds visit our flower beds! We live in a single-family home with a huge backyard. Bud has planted nine trees, four vegetable beds, and six bushes in the backyard and yet we can easily put a badminton court in the middle! Our future child will always have a large yard to play in and home-grown fruits and vegetables to eat!
We have very friendly neighbors who look out for each other. Most of our neighbors are working professionals with families. The neighborhood has lots of kids of all ages. We have a children’s park and a community swimming pool in our neighborhood. We live in the best elementary school district of the town and our high school is among the best in the state.
Our Promise as Future Parents:
• Your child will have loving, caring, and supportive parents
• Your child will know how all of our lives came together and helped create our amazing family
• Your child will get all the opportunities to nurture their talents
• Most importantly, your child will have a fun life
Final Thoughts: We cannot thank you enough for giving us this gift of life. We have always wanted to be parents and we will give your child a beautiful life.
