Dan & Brenda
Brenda + Dan from Ojai, CA
Dear Birth Mother: Words are all we have to express our deep gratitude for taking the steps that have led you to this moment. We trust that when the time comes for you to choose adoptive parent(s) for your child, it will be the most fitting choice. As future adoptive parents, we believe there is a little soul looking to choose us, as well as a birth mother who finds peace of mind because she feels we are the right parents for her child.
Our inability to have a child biologically has led us to this crossroads with you, a challenging place, yet a unique and beautiful opportunity. We would like you to know that if you find us to be the “right fit” as parents, we will raise your child, our child, with unconditional love, respect, kindness, compassion and honesty.
We assure you that we will encourage their creativity, playfulness and a spiritual direction. As well, we promise to bring the joys of family, friends and adventure to their life.
With Love and Gratitude, Dan and Brenda
About Us …our story: We met in California while living and working in Yosemite National Park. Following months of “cat and mouse,” Dan seized a critical moment. After a friend’s potluck, Dan trailed a group of folks from the house, which included Brenda. Nervous about “making a move,” Dan said goodnight to the group and with his head down, shuffled back home. With revived courage he hustled back to the group and asked, “Hey, does anyone want to hang out by the river…Brenda?” The group took the hint and with little hesitation the two of us walked down to the Merced River beneath a full moon and talked until the wee hours of morning.
Seven years later Brenda hiked 10 miles to the top of El Capitan to meet Dan after he spent five days climbing “El Cap” and this is where he proposed to Brenda. We have been together since 2002, including our eight years of beautiful marriage.
Together we enjoy:
● Cozying – AKA snuggling
● Surf trips
● Playing in the mountains
● Watching romantic comedies
● Hanging with friends and family
Meet Brenda … loving wife and inspiration: I grew up just north of Philadelphia, PA with my mom Sue, dad Ron and older brother Chris and was surrounded by a large extended family and close friends. I have many fond childhood memories of celebrating holidays and birthdays; sipping hot chocolate after sledding; learning to garden with my grandmom; spending summer days at the pool; and family vacations to the beach and mountains, which rooted my love for the outdoors. I am passionate about holistic health, fitness and happiness.
After earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree in exercise physiology I pursued in-depth studies of yoga and holistic medicine. Many of these experiences have led me to my current job as the Fitness and Wellness Director at a local university.
What Brenda enjoys:
● Growing flowers, vegetables and fruit trees.
● Yoga and meditation.
● Surfing, tennis, climbing, hiking, biking.
● Dancing and listening to music.
● Reading and learning.
● Spending time with Dan, friends and family.
About Brenda…shared by Dan: I ADORE MY WIFE. I often refer to her as my “lantern of positivity.” There is little this woman is afraid to try. She is an independent, strong woman who constantly challenges herself with new things in her personal and professional life.
I call her my “Little Hummingbird” because she has that type of energy. Brenda’s drive and motivation is balanced with her modesty, sweetness and simplicity. She is light-hearted with a silly sense of humor. She doesn’t complicate life with drama and sees challenges as simply a part of life. She loves me regardless and I feel this. It is these qualities that will undoubtedly make her an incredible mother with positive encouragement for our child; reminding our child not to take life too seriously; and giving our child love unconditionally.
Meet Dan…loving husband and friend: I am one of four siblings, three boys and a girl, raised in southern California. This meant lots of beach time coupled with sports, namely football and baseball. I was exposed to camping, hiking and fishing at an early age through Scouting-my dad was my Boy Scout leader.
After 12 years of Catholic school, I attended a community college and eventually earned a bachelor’s degree in human development, a master’s in environmental studies and a master’s in counseling. Today I am a tenured faculty serving students as an Academic Counselor at a local community college.
What Dan enjoys:
● Quality time with my wife, friends + family.
● Fly fishing, climbing, body surfing, tennis.
● Woodworking, building furniture, art.
● Hosting gatherings at our home.
● Dancing with my wife and friends.
About Dan…shared by Brenda: Dan is the LOVE OF MY LIFE. He is my best friend and life partner. He is kind, loving and thoughtful. I appreciate his genuine curiosity about people and how he values wholehearted and meaningful relationships. He always makes an effort to bring family and community together to celebrate life and create shared experiences.
I admire Dan’s artistic and creative side, which have contributed to building a warm and inviting home. I am grateful for Dan’s zest for life; his love and appreciation of the natural world; how he makes me laugh; how he challenges me to think a little “bigger”; his love for learning; his imagination; the “caretaker” in him; and his words of encouragement. For these qualities and more, I’m eager for Dan to become a father.
Family + Friends
Our Family …and Friends: Brenda’s parents, Ron and Sue and Dan’s parents, Tom and Sandy, have set the foundation for family by having over 100 years of marriage collectively. Family and friends are an important part of our lives, as well as our cat, Caly. Since Dan’s family are near, we regularly visit them for holidays and birthdays, niece and nephews events and simply to spend quality time with them. Our newest family additions, eleven-month-old nephew Shane and his newborn sister Charlotte will look forward to having a new play partner.
When visiting Brenda’s family in Pennsylvania we always make the rounds to visit her vast extended family, which includes many cousins with children. Brenda’s brother Chris is quite excited for his first niece or nephew and her parents, their first grandchild-who will undoubtedly be their center of attention.
Additionally, we have many, many friends near and far that have kids and those closest have dozens of children, from newborns (three recently!) on up to age five.
Our Cat…Caly: Caly, is a soft cuddly black cat that likes to spend time inside and outside. It’s not uncommon for Caly to hop up on a seat at the dining table during dinner-she knows she’s part of the family. She loves belly rubs and chin scratches and receives them often.
Our Home + Thank You
Our Home …and Community: We LOVE our HOME! We live in an old farmhouse that we renovated ourselves in the small town of Ojai, California (pronounced “o-hi”). Surrounded by citrus orchards and the Los Padres National Forest, Ojai is a place people move to “just to raise kids.”
We are walking distance from several open space preserves with a network of hiking trails. A bike trail connects our neighborhood to downtown, which hosts the incredible Libbey Park with modern play structures, picnic tables, tennis courts and a small outdoor concert venue. This same bike trail takes us down to the ocean where we surf!
Ojai also boasts several elementary and high school options. Our half acre property is a child’s playground with our incredible garden, a seasonal creek and a tree swing hanging from a massive oak under which we enjoy campfires and gatherings with our friends and family.
Thank you …we are so grateful: Thank you for taking the time to review our profile and read part of our story. We wish you continued strength and courage in your effort to find the right adoptive parent(s) for your child. If you feel and believe that is us, we are most certainly honored and look forward to connecting with you.
We hope the very best for you and your child throughout this journey.
