David & Matt
Hello, We are David and Matthew!
We are a happily married couple with our adopted son, Sebastian. We are ready to grow our family again through the miracle of adoption.
Going through the adoption process once, being chosen and entrusted by the birth parents to raise their child, helped us to realize that we wanted to adopt again.
We met over 13 years ago and are fortunate to be in a stable and committed relationship that continues to grow and evolve each and every day. We both have always wanted children and are at a point in our lives, both personally and professionally, that we feel we can give children the unconditional love they deserve in a secure and hard working family.
We are financially stable and have excellent, flexible careers. We want to raise our children and watch them grow, as they learn about the world around them. We want to be able to pass along our family memories and traditions as well as create our own.
Our Story: We met 13 years ago in San Francisco when we were both having a night out with our friends. One of David’s friends, Danny, pointed Matthew out to David.
We eventually bumped into each other that night and started talking and danced a little bit. We exchanged phone numbers that night and Matthew called David the following week. We planned a date for the next Sunday evening. From there, we hit it off and started dating and chatting on the phone all the time.
David proposed to Matthew in New Orleans while taking a romantic horse drawn carriage around the city.
We both always wanted the fairy tale wedding from our childhoods and we instantly knew where we wanted to get married and so we went about planning our dream wedding.
We were married on an absolutely gorgeous day, at the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay, on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. We were surrounded by our family and friends from nearby and as far away as Paris. It was the best day of our lives. We were the first gay couple to get married at the Ritz, which they were just as excited about as us.
Our wedding took place 8 years ago before gay marriage became legal but we didn’t care, we wanted that commitment to each other. When gay marriage did become legal in California, we went to city hall and made it official.
Matthew by David: Matthew is a very loving and caring man. He also has a great dry sense of humor and will always make me smile with his quick comments.
He is also confident and intelligent. He is strong in areas where I am weak. He can decorate better than anyone I know. He is very calm and understanding.
Matthew is a very patient person. He will walk into the dining room with Sebastian hanging on to his shorts walking alongside him. He is able to juggle multiple tasks with Sebastian right there by his side, from watering the outdoor plants, to cleaning the house to doing laundry together.
Matthew is a fantastic Daddy. He selflessly puts Sebastian and his needs first. He instinctively knows what Sebastian needs or wants. From the beginning, Matthew has had the natural parent instinct on caring for and raising Sebastian. Our next child will be very fortunate to experience the same love and nurturing from him.
Matthew’s Work I work in the Biotech Industry. I wear several hats at my company, handling everything from HR to IT to Facilities to Office Management. The ability to multi-task is definitely one of my strengths, which will come in handy once we welcome another child into our home.
While I don’t directly treat or cure any patients, I feel very rewarded when a drug our company has been working on for years does get approved and makes a difference in someone’s life. I work from home with a great group of people and a fantastic boss.
I have worked with my boss for over 10 years and have a great deal of respect for him. He is a firm believer in work / life balance and very flexible when it comes to getting the job done.
David by Matthew: David is an amazing man, his sense of humor, his caring nature, his “go getter” attitude, his thoughtfulness, and his passion all amaze me. He has greatly broadened my world and had me experience so many things, that I may not have experienced if it wasn’t for him.
He is a very strong willed and determined person that likes to get things done. He has been very successful in everything he has done.
He loves sports, especially soccer and basketball. He plays basketball several times a week, as much as he can. He is already working with Sebastian on his ball skills and will love to teach things to our next child.
David loves to cook and is so excited that Sebastian loves to eat just about everything, since Matthew is a picky eater.
David is an amazing Dadda. For being a big tough man, he has is a softy when it comes to Sebastian. He loves to play with Sebastian and get him toys (I think he is just as excited about playing with them as Sebastian is).
He often talks about all the things to do and places he wants to take Sebastian and our next child when they are old enough.
David’s Work I work in the Sensor Industry selling pressure sensors to the Medical, Industrial, Semiconductor, Automotive, and Aerospace Industry.
I have been working in the Sensor Industry for over 20 years in various roles including: Customer Service, Engineering, Business Development, Product Management, Program Manager, and Vice President. My current and previous jobs over the past ten years allowed me to live in California working from my home office or nearby.
I travel globally for my company working with customers in Asia Pacific, Latin America, Europe, and throughout North America.
Sebastian and Our Thoughts on Parenting
Meet Sebastian: In 2013 we adopted our son Sebastian and welcomed him into our hearts and home. He is an amazing little boy full of energy and so inquisitive about everything.
While he is still too young to fully understand what adoption is, we do share stories of his adoption with him. We want him to understand how he came into our lives and how much his parents cared for him when they decided to choose us to adopt him.
Since adopting Sebastian, our lives have forever changed, in the best possible way. We love our precious son, we love being parents, and we love being a family.
We have so much love to offer our next child and can’t wait to continue to grow our family through the gift of adoption. Sebastian can’t wait to be a big brother!
On Parenting: We are ready to welcome another child into our home and give them the love and care they deserve from the bottom of our beings. We will raise them to be honest, compassionate, caring, hard working and appreciative, but most importantly to be happy.
We plan to expose them to all cultures and ethnicities, both locally and through foreign travel to experience things first hand. We want our children to grow up to be aware of the world around them and that anything is possible. We will encourage our children to try new things and not be scared of failure.
We will be supportive of our children, cheer them on in sporting events or after-school activities, help them with their education, and always be someone who will listen to them and help them make decisions.
Our Home and Travels
Our Home: We live in a comfortable, historic home, located in Northern California. We often open up our home to our family and friends for the holidays, celebrations, and get-togethers.
We spend many days and nights in our backyard, whether swimming in the pool, BBQing lunch or dinner, or just hanging out.
Our city has excellent schools within walking distance from our home and is one of the safest cities around. Our city is very open and diverse, as there are many major corporate headquarters here, with people from around the world.
Our home is conveniently located within short driving distance of many great attractions including the ocean, a large city, the mountains, and the countryside. We are within walking distance of the downtown, a library, and restaurants.
During the week, we take walks around the neighborhood and University campus and go to play in the nearby parks. Sebastian loves the swings.
On Saturday mornings, we walk over to the local farmers market and get our fruit and vegetables for the week. On weekends, we “scout” for the best playgrounds in the local area for when Sebastian gets older to maximize his playground experience.
We look forward to welcoming another child (as well as another stroller) into our out and about the neighborhood time.
Our Travels: We both love to travel – whether it is a one day getaway, a long weekend or a two week trip. We both have traveled the globe extensively for work. But the best trips have been the ones we have taken together.
We have traveled to the perfect beach paradise of Bora Bora, to the highest mountain range in the Andes, to the fabulous city of Paris, to historic London, to the town of Ceska Trebova, in the Czech Republic, where Matthew’s Great-Grandfather spent the first 9 years of his life before immigrating to the US.
In the 13 years that we have been together, we have traveled to 15 countries as well as countless cities in the US. Every place we visit opens our eyes to what the world has to offer us and we leave with a little bit of knowledge, and whole lot of memories.
We have taken Sebastian on several trips already and look forward to being able to take our next child on many more trips as a family.
We want to expose our children to the vast cultures, ethnicities, histories, landscapes and possibilities that are out there.
