Devry & Megan
Devry & Megan
Dear Expectant Parents: Hello! We are Megan and Devry from Alberta, Canada along with our children Owen, Brody and Liam! Thank you so much for taking the time to learn about our family! We hope our profile showcases the love we have for our children; a love we hope to grow through open adoption.
Adoption has always been close to our hearts. Devry’s Grandfather, the patriarch of his family, was adopted. We have several other family members who have chosen to build their families through adoption as well. In our families, adoption is widely accepted and cherished.
We always knew we wanted kids and were so excited to welcome our 3 biological sons, Owen, Brody, and Liam. After Megan’s third c-section, her OB advised against future pregnancies. We know our family is not complete, and for us, choosing adoption to complete our family just feels right.
We’re choosing to adopt from the USA because domestically, Canadian families can only adopt from their own province of residence, and in Alberta, it takes several years to adopt. We would like our children to be close in age so we are grateful to be able to adopt from the USA!
Please know that we admire you for turning the dreams you have for your child into a reality by selecting a family that can provide the future you envision your child having. We’d be honored to be entrusted with that responsibility and are grateful for your consideration.
Here’s Our Story, as told by Megan: Devry and I met online in January 2010. On our first date, we closed down the pub after talking for 5 hours! Soon after, we became inseparable. We both enjoy live theatre, travel, board games, and movies. We love animals, and share a sarcastic sense of humor. We connected over our shared values and quickly discovered that we were both looking for the same thing; a lasting relationship that could lead to the formation of a secure, loving family.
We joke that we are two peas in a pod because our likes and dislikes match so closely that we often find ourselves thinking or saying the same thing at the same time!
Why do we want to add another child to our family? We love being parents! Our home, our schedules, and most importantly our hearts have ample room for another child. In fact, it feels as though someone is still missing from our family. We can’t wait to grow our family through adoption!

Meet Megan, by Megan: I grew up in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. My parents and majority of my extended family still live in the city. We are a close-knit family and visit often. My Mom and I are best friends!
Career wise, I’m an Office and Finance Manager and I work 20-25hrs per week. One of the perks of my job is that I get to create my own work schedule, and after the birth of each child, I’ve received 18 months of paid leave. I am blessed with the type of job flexibility that allows me to be the parent volunteer for our kids’ school field trips. I can stay home when our kids are unwell. I’m able to make breakfast and take our kids to school every morning, and I’m done with work in time to pick them up and enjoy a family supper each night! I love being a mother and have so much love to give another child!
About My Wife, written by Devry: Megan is always coming up with something fun to do with our kids – crafts, baking, play dates, treasure hunts. She’s the type of Mom who isn’t afraid to get dirty or look silly. One of the things I’ve always loved about Megan is the effort that she puts into everything she does. Megan is incredibly organized and keeps our daily lives running smoothly. The love she has for our family is undeniable and I look forward to raising another child with her by my side.

Meet Devry, by Devry: I was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. I had a great childhood and have fond memories of train rides and road trips; all things I now enjoy doing with my own kids. I moved to Medicine Hat in 2006 to begin my career as a Pilot. I come from a large, loud, welcoming family.
I enjoy my career. I’m a Medevac Pilot for CanWest Air who supports Alberta Health Services by flying sick or injured patients to nearby hospitals. I have an awesome rotating schedule. I work a week of dayshift, have a week off, work a week of nightshift, then have another week off. My schedule allows me to be home with my wife and kids more often than most pilots could ever dream of! Even when I’m on shift, I get to be at home until a flight is needed, and then I get to return home immediately after relocating the patient. A majority of the time you’ll find me at home, caring for our kids and enjoying family life. I enjoy being a father so much and can’t wait to grow our family through adoption.
Meet My Husband, written by Megan: Devry is a supportive, laid back, loving husband and Father. He’s a fun Dad! He loves playing outside with our kids, helping them build forts, and teaching them new things. Nothing makes my heart happier than when I catch them all in the kitchen together having a dance party! Devry’s an outdoorsy, athletic guy. He likes to take our kids fishing, loves camping, and enjoys taking our boys to see his airplane at work. They think he has the coolest job in the world! When it comes to Fatherhood, Devry’s a natural.

Meet big brothers Owen, Brody and Liam. Our sons Owen, Brody, and Liam are very excited to welcome their future sibling into the family and we talk about it with them often! They will be the best playmates and big brothers a sibling could have!
About Our Extended Families: Our families get along very well and come together for birthdays and holidays! Megan’s parents, Mamma & Papa, live a short 5-minute drive away. They are very involved in our daily lives! Mamma loves helping out with childcare when our work schedules overlap, and Papa is retired and often helps out as well.
Devry’s Mom, Nana, lives 1.5 hours away. She comes to visit monthly and we use Skype to stay in touch between visits. Devry’s Dad passed away unexpectedly in early 2015. He is greatly missed, but we are so grateful that the grandparents our kids still have are so involved in their lives!
Megan’s brother, Justin, and his wife, Paulina, live 5 hours away. Devry’s sister, Roxane, and her family live 5.5 hours away. We don’t get to see them as much as we’d like, but we all stay in touch via text and Facetime.
Our Home and Closing Thoughts
Home Sweet Home: We recently built our forever home; a 6-bedroom bungalow in Alberta, Canada. The location is great for our family, with lots of neighbourhood kids close in age. It has a wonderful park just across the street with walking paths, a creek, a toboggan hill, and a playground for the kids. Our kids’ school is a short drive away; we picked it because it offers a hands-on curriculum that encourages students to become confident self-starters, and develops their critical thinking skills. We are less than a 3 hour drive from Calgary, the largest city in Alberta! It’s one of our favorite road trip destinations because the city offers an abundance of family activities for all ages!
Five Perks of Being Part of Our Larger Family:
• Companionship. There’s always someone to talk to or play with!
• Exposure to a wide variety of interests and experiences
• The ability to learn new things from siblings
• A chance to develop strong teamwork and conflict resolution skills early on in life
• ENDLESS UNCONDITIONAL LOVE!
In Closing: Thank you for taking the time to learn about us! We truly feel that we are meant to be a family of 6 and we’re so excited to grow our family one more time through adoption. The adoption we hope for is one where you continue to be an integral part of your child’s life, but we will respect whatever level of contact you are comfortable with. Your child will grow up knowing how loved she/he is, both by us and by you.
