Eric & Kyle
Eric and Kyle
Hello and thank you for taking a moment to learn more about our story. We are Eric & Kyle from Berkeley, California, and we are honored to share a little bit about our life together with you.
For us, family is the most beautiful thing in the world and more than anything, our dream is to become parents.
We have been together for 6 years and married since 2016, and in that time have built a wonderful life together, surrounded by our incredibly supportive family and friends.
Our life is full of adventures, laughter, and love and we are so excited to share that love with our future child. We fully recognize that it takes great courage and strength to choose adoption and are grateful that you are considering us as an adoptive family for your child. We can’t wait to meet you and hear your story!
Our Life Story: We met on a spring afternoon in New York City. After an 8-hour lunch date, we both knew we had found something very special. We bonded over our Midwestern roots, our love of music and travel, and the deep importance of family in our lives. We have treasured every moment of life together since!
We said “I do” in upstate New York in 2016 in a meadow, under a beautiful blue sky, surrounded by 100 of our closest family and friends. Since then, our families have become very close and remain a treasured support system for us.
We are both very fortunate to have stable and rewarding careers that allow us to be able to do all of the things we love, from attending concerts and theater, to traveling around the world with our family and friends.
In 2017, we made the big decision to move across the country from New York to California to upgrade to a beautiful family-friendly home with a yard in the vibrant, diverse community of Berkeley, California.
We feel we are in the perfect place in our lives to provide a stable & loving home for a child in a community that shares our values of kindness & equality.
Exploring the world together: As a couple we have been very fortunate to travel much of the world together. We believe there is so much value in experiencing different cultures and meeting people from all different backgrounds. Whether floating down the canals of Venice, exploring Africa on safari, hiking the Andes Mountains, riding a rickshaw in Thailand, or watching the New Year’s fireworks from the Sydney Opera House, we firmly believe that travel enhances our lives and brings the world closer together.
Meet Kyle: I grew up in Flint, Michigan with my parents and two older brothers, Nick and Josh. I had amazing parents who were wonderful models of how to create a home that is full of unconditional love, where everyone has the ability to be themselves.
My family was always incredibly supportive of my interests and at a young age I developed my passion for music. I learned to play many instruments and write music, but my main focus was playing the clarinet. As a kid and young adult I performed in concert halls all over the world. Music allowed me to travel quite a bit and that’s how I developed my love for discovering new places. I hope to be able to share my love of music and travel with our child.
After going to college in Chicago, I moved to New York, where I met Eric, to earn my Master’s Degree. After working in the music and technology fields, I now work at Instagram where I hire engineering executives for the company. I am lucky to have a job that allows me plenty of time to pursue my other interests including playing music, taking long hikes, gardening, and testing out new recipes with the lemons from my yard!
My husband and best friend, Kyle – by Eric: Seeing him with our nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends’ kids is such a delight — he’s caring, nurturing, & overflowing with love. Kyle is such a perfect ying to my yang. He’s serious when I’m goofy, he’s cheerful when I’m having a bad day, and is the sweetest person I know. Very soon after we first met, we quickly understood that our personalities, our values, and our goals perfectly meshed.
He’s intelligent, witty, sensitive, and wants to make the world a better place. We’re great at partnering together to figure out difficult challenges.
I know he’s going to be an amazing parent, and an amazing friend to our child, as I’m lucky enough to call him my best friend.
Meet Eric: I grew up in Whiting, Indiana with my parents and younger siblings Kimberly and Michael. My parents worked hard to support our family, while still ensuring our childhoods were filled with love and laughter.
My mom helped me to learn to read at a very young age, and my passion for learning stayed with me throughout my childhood. A bit of a nerd, I learned computer programming by age 7, and went to college to study Computer Science. Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to work for top tech companies in London, New York, and Los Angeles, and am currently at Facebook’s headquarters, where I lead teams to help improve the products that 2 billion people use, and help friends and family keep in touch on Facebook.
Having traveled so much, it’s important to me to keep in touch with friends and family, and I’m lucky that we get to see each other often. At home, I’m often taking the dogs for hikes, trying new recipes, and teaching Kyle about pop music — while he continues to teach me about classical music.
My husband and best friend, Eric – By Kyle: I am so incredibly excited to see Eric become a father. My favorite moment from the holidays this year was watching Eric entertain our nieces and nephews with magic tricks. His ability to make a toy car “disappear” in an empty box brought so many giggles and so much happiness to their faces.
Eric’s kindness and compassion is contagious. He’s smart and thoughtful and is always there to lend a helping hand and open ear for his family and friends. If someone needs help, he’s the first person to step up and offer his support.
I admire his strength, calmness, and methodical point of view in difficult situations and am confident all of these qualities will make him a wonderful father. He loves spending time with the children of our siblings and friends and I can’t wait for him to share that joy with our child.
The People We Love
The People We Love: We are both incredibly lucky to have a loving and supportive family in California and all over the country. Between us we have 5 siblings and 8 nieces and nephews. We love spending time together and make it a top priority see each other many times a year.
Kyle’s family has an annual reunion that brings everyone together to play games, share stories, and create memories together year after year. In this past year’s family scavenger hunt we won first prize. We really look forward to sharing these family traditions with our child.
We are at the stage in our life where many of our friends are becoming parents as well, both biologically and through adoption, and have been excited to share in their joy as children came into their lives. We are godparents to two of our closest friends’ children and three of our nephews and love spending time with them.
• Provide a safe and supportive home for our child that is full of laughter, kindness, and love
• Encourage our child to be themself and explore their passions so they are happy and fulfilled
• Provide the best possible education so they can pursue their dreams and find success in whatever they may choose to do
• Make sure our child knows it is ok to make mistakes and that their parents are there to support them and their learning every step of the way
• Provide access to cultural diversity including art, music, travel, science, books, and sports so they can benefit from all that the world has to offer
• Always be our child’s biggest advocate and supporter
• We promise to honor your role as birth mother
We live in A BEAUTIFUL, LARGE HOME in the hills of BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA in a lovely neighborhood, just steps from the University of California & Tilden park.
Within 5 minutes of our house are family-friendly amenities including the Little Farm (petting zoo), a miniature steam train, a vintage carousel, and a children’s science museum, all of which have been a big hit with our nieces and nephews and we can’t wait to share them with our child.
One of our favorite things about our house is that we have panoramic views of the entire Bay Area, including the city of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. We find plenty of inspiration in just spending some time on our balconies. We also love having a lush yard with many fruit trees that have been coming in handy when trying out new recipes for fruit pies and lemon bars! Our fenced-in yard has been a great space for our pups and young relatives to explore, and we know it’ll be an important part of our child’s first few years.
We chose to buy our home in Berkeley because it is a community that values diversity and brings many cultures together from all over the world. We live in a wonderful school district that is supported by one of the top universities in the country and know that it will be an amazing place to raise our family.
Puppy Love: Kermit & Gonzo are our two beloved terrier pups. We rescued Kermit when we lived in New York City and Gonzo when we moved to California. They are inseparable as puppy “brothers” and a constant source of joy in our lives. They are both incredibly friendly and love making new friends. Cuddling with Kermit and Gonzo while watching TV in the evening is one of our favorite things.
In Closing: We cannot express our gratitude enough for taking the time to hear more about our story and our deep passion to become parents. We are humbled that you would consider us to be your child’s adoptive family and we hope these stories helped to show you the kind of life we could provide for them. We would love to get to know you better and hear your story.
