Hello! We are Harmony & Jen from San Francisco, and we are honored to share a little bit about our life with you. We have been together for 13 years (married for 5!) And have always dreamed of becoming moms.

We have a wonderful life full of love, laughter, and community that we can’t wait to share with our future child. We recognize that it takes courage and selflessness to choose adoption, and your strength will forever be celebrated in our home. Thank you for taking time to consider us as adoptive parents.

We met at a bowling night during our early days of college. After Harmony effortlessly and humbly defeated Jen, Jen knew she had met her match and proceeded to patiently pursue Harmony for an entire school year. Eventually Harmony gave in, and we’ve been inseparable ever since. Since graduating, we have put down roots in San Francisco, where we are surrounded by an incredible, loving community of friends and family. Our love is grounded in friendship, our mutual respect and admiration for one another, and our commitment to growth and learning.

Days after our wedding in 2017, we were seeking a challenge, so for our honeymoon we saved our money, quit our jobs, and cycled self-supported from San Francisco to New Orleans. The trip took us nearly three months and we met the most amazing, welcoming, and giving people along the way. We would love to experience a similar adventure with our kids someday! Starting our family is our next big adventure together!

I grew up in Oceanside, California, a suburb of San Diego. I grew up playing any sport I could join, but eventually settled on softball, which I played competitively throughout college. When I was 3, my mom started a Head Start preschool in our home which she still runs today. Living in a preschool until I went off to college instilled in me the core values of diversity and hard work – to provide for others and welcome people that have different identities and backgrounds in your life. That experience drives me in the types of work I do today. In a prior job, for example, I traveled to Nairobi, Kenya often to help people living below the poverty line learn technology and gain employment.

These days, I’m happiest when I’m hosting dinner parties with friends/family, listening to a podcast, biking around San Francisco, playing with our cat, or watching a Netflix show with Jen. I also love to express creativity through ceramics, writing poetry, and by cooking meals without a recipe.

I’ve never encountered someone as talented, passionate, and full of personality as Harmony. As an All-American softball player and a top 10% student at our college, she has been good at everything she has tried for as long as I’ve known her. I’m endlessly inspired by Harmony’s commitment to building community. She is a leader in our neighborhood activism group, a volunteer and advocate for unhoused and underrepresented people, and the planner for all of our social events with friends and family. Above all, I love Harmony for her infectious joy and the positivity she brings to our lives. She brings out the most playful and compassionate version of myself. She’s not just my wife, she’s my best friend!

I grew up in San Mateo, California, with loving parents, my younger brother, Joe, and supportive grandparents who lived nearby. Despite my parents both working full time, we always ate dinner together as a family. Sports were a huge part of my childhood - I enjoyed playing competitive soccer, basketball, volleyball, and baseball (both parents coached teams I played for over the years), and I would often watch and attend Bay Area sporting events with my family growing up. As an adult, I continue to set goals that challenge me physically, from competing in triathlons and half marathons to biking across the US with Harmony.

I’ve found my calling as an executive recruiter in the technology industry where I feel fulfilled and challenged by my work. I’m lucky to have a job that provides the flexibility to pursue interests outside of work, take time off, and work remotely.

Jen is the most confident and humble person I know. Despite her achievements in athletics (college basketball player) and her career (promoted to Partner the fastest in her firm’s history), she hates being the center of attention. She would rather spend time empowering others to become their best selves than take credit for her accomplishments. Jen has a unique ability to make people feel special with her warm hugs and her undivided attention. I deeply admire her for her generosity, ability to keep perspective during hard times, and loyalty to her family. Jen makes all our lives better with her unconditional love, passion for personal growth, and calming presence – I won the jackpot for getting to be her wife!

Jen grew up near San Francisco, and we are lucky to still have her family nearby.

Her younger brother and his partner live across the bridge in Berkeley, and her grandmother who helped raise her lives half a mile from her parents. Jen’s parents own a wonderful home 20 minutes away with a friendly dog, a big backyard, and a pool. They frequently host family dinners where we cook together and cheer for Bay Area sports teams. They also own a beautiful lakeside cabin near Lake Tahoe where we enjoy swimming, hiking, and mountain biking in the summer, and skiing and snowboarding in the winter as a family.

Harmony grew up as an only child near San Diego. We spend a lot of time with Harmony’s chosen family members in the Bay Area. We are also very close with her dad who lives by Palm Springs, CA and her extended family in both Arizona and Connecticut.

After graduating from college, we moved to San Francisco. Over the past 10 years, the proximity to Jen’s family, diversity of people and neighborhoods, breathtaking ocean and bay views, energy and entrepreneurial spirit, and accessibility to nature have captured our hearts. We recently bought our forever home that has all the space our family will need for decades to come, including a big backyard with a grill, a jacuzzi, and lots of grass to run around. Our neighborhood, Inner Sunset, has a safe, suburban feel and a large community of young families.

We both bike to work, and there are parks, cafes, farmer’s markets, block parties, and kid-friendly restaurants we look forward to enjoying with our future child.

In 2020, we adopted a hilarious kitten named Trooper. He is extremely loving, gentle, and playful. Just like a dog, he loves to cuddle, play fetch, and jump several feet in the air to catch his toy mouse. He’s very excited for a new best friend!

We are committed to an open adoption so that we can provide our future child with honesty, transparency, more opportunities for love, and give them the gift of connection to their biological family.
