Hugh & Cole

Cole & Hugh

Hi! We are Cole and Hugh from Los Angeles, California! Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story. We admire the love and courage you have shown in choosing adoption for your child.

Adoption is especially meaningful to us, as we have many adoption stories in our own families. Cole’s grandmother was adopted into a loving home as a child. Hugh’s cousin adopted two children who are now grown. Cole’s other grandmother placed a child for adoption and we are all still connected. We’ve seen how beautiful it is for so much love to surround one child.

were not able to have children of our own and we are excited to grow our family through the gift of adoption. We have created a beautiful life together with so much love to give.

Our wish is that you find the perfect family for your child. Maybe it’s us. It would be an honor. Thank you so much for considering our family.

We are so excited to begin this journey!

Cole & Hugh

About Us

We met at the Oscars! Cole was working as a producer for Good Morning America in New York City, and flew to Los Angeles to cover the Academy Awards. Hugh was working in Los Angeles as a film editor and a close friend recommended we work together. We are eternally grateful for that! A few months later, Hugh reached out to Cole on Facebook. After a few months of writing each other and talking on the phone, Hugh flew to New York City to take Cole on an official first date. That was 10 years ago, and we’ve been together ever since!

Our second home is a cabin in the mountains, in the tiny town of Mt Baldy, about an hour outside of Los Angeles. In a forest right out of a fairy tale, with birds singing in the trees.

We think it must be magic because it’s where Hugh first started writing to Cole, and one year later, where he proposed. We married on the deck overlooking a stream, surrounded by our closest family and friends (just 10 people). On weekends, we love going up there to relax. We grill, cook and hike to the nearby waterfalls. The best part? Snow in winter! We love that our family can experience all the seasons, leaves falling off the trees in the fall, snow at Christmas – so close to Los Angeles!

About Us

About Cole

I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with my family of four (parents and sister). Our house was always filled with music, and my parents always encouraged my creativity and curiosity, taking me to music and dance lessons and supporting my love of theater and writing.

I went to college outside of Chicago, and then moved to New York City, where I had a brief career as a professional dancer, before becoming a television producer. I went back to graduate school for a master’s degree in journalism, and then worked in television news and documentaries.

Over the years, I am proud to have won four Emmys. After moving to Los Angeles, and marrying Hugh, I decided to leave television so that I could create a more flexible schedule for our family. Today, I work at home as a freelance journalist, writing for VICE, Refinery29, and Los Angeles Magazine. I also teach a writing class at UCLA, as well as private writing classes in our home.

I have an extremely flexible schedule, and once we have a child, I plan to be at home. I am so excited to be a mother, and can’t wait to begin this journey!

Cole is, hands down, my favorite person in the world! She is a unique combination of talent, emotion, knowledge, intuition, wisdom and passion. Within all her accomplishments as a journalist, writer, producer and performer is a deeply loving woman with profound empathy and understanding for others. People are immediately drawn to her as a kindred spirit, and I love watching that – I love watching how much others quickly love her and connect with her.

I feel so lucky to have her as my wife and partner! For as long as I’ve known her, Cole has felt a powerful pull towards motherhood – a passion for having children. She has more to offer – more love to give – than anyone I’ve ever known. I can’t wait to watch her be a mother and share in this beautiful journey with her.

About Hugh

I was born in Austin, Texas and grew up in Dallas with my parents, older brother and two basset hounds named Sukey and Cinnamon. I was born with an immediate passion for music, and my parents deeply encouraged it.

I grew up playing the piano, violin and drums, starting at age six. For college, I went to a music conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts. After, I moved to New York City where I began working as a professional drummer. I made music with some of my biggest idols, recording and performing on stages all over the country – a dream come true!

Years later, I decided to stop touring and I fell in love with the art of film and video editing. Self-taught, I landed a job as a television editor at ABC. It was very similar to making music, creating stories and moving people. After living in New York for 20 years, I decided to move west to Los Angeles.

Today, I work as an editor for Discovery Studios creating television series and films.

I am PASSIONATE about being a father and EAGER to grow our family with Cole.

Children’s Book – The Adventures of Hugh and Cubby-Cub (by Cole!)

Hugh is this amazing combination of being the strongest person I know, while at the same time, being so gentle, loving, caring and wise. He is deeply expressive and a great listener and problem-solver. He’s thoughtful – sending me sweet messages throughout the day, and surprise gifts for no reason.

Hugh has this wonderful sense of adventure and curiosity and so much love to give. I can already see him as a father – patient and loving while encouraging our child to follow their passions and explore. I always feel so safe with Hugh, and trust him so deeply. Hugh has a silly side too – playful and telling jokes and always making me laugh. We have been together for 10 years, and I love him more and more each day.

Our Home, Community & Closing Thoughts

We live on a tree-lined street in a cozy home in the Hollywood Hills, California. Our home is a short walk from two different parks, with hiking trails and playgrounds, and close to a wonderful elementary school.

Nearby are museums, farmers markets, Universal Studios, and the Hollywood Bowl, a fantastic outdoor concert venue. Our neighborhood is safe and quiet, and we have a beautiful garden, with regular visits from hummingbirds. We love visiting a nearby farm animal sanctuary where we can pet cows, pigs, goats and chickens. We’re also about 30 minutes from the beach, where we often spot families of dolphins playing in the waves.

Our two rescued cats, Francesca and Isabella are our furry bundles of love.

They both love to play (and nap!) and they sleep with us almost every night. When Cole’s students arrive to the home for classes, Francesca greets them at the door, and Isabella curls up on the couch next to them.

We are both very close with our families and feel so grateful to have loving friends and family all over the world, from New York to New Orleans to Tuscany in Italy. Cole loves to host family and holiday gatherings. There’s a lot of laughing, silliness and wonderful talks, and of course, because Cole is half-Italian, amazing food!

Cole’s parents Alan and Joann live in New Haven, Connecticut. Cole and her younger sister Michelle are extremely close – they talk on the phone just about every day for at least an hour, most of that time spent giggling. Michelle is a veterinary cardiologist and lives in New Jersey. She is so excited to be an aunt!

Hugh’s father, Clay, lives with his wife Heather in Boulder, Colorado. Hugh’s mother, Debbie, passed away six years ago, and we miss her everyday. Debbie was married to Clay for 53 years! We hope to pass those values on in our own family. Hugh’s older brother Andy, and his wife Kelly, live outside New Orleans, Louisiana and have three wonderful sons who have already volunteered to babysit!

Hugh is also godfather to his best friend’s daughter, Lucy. When Lucy visits, we spend time playing outside, going on pony rides, reading, swimming and making homemade pizzas.

Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know our family, and look into this window of our lives – we hope this gives you a sense of who we are and our values. We promise to give your child unconditional love, opportunity, education, and a home filled with music, art and laughter.

It is so important to us that your child knows where they came from and all of the love around this decision. We admire and respect you deeply. We would be so happy to answer any questions you may have about us, our lives and whether we may be the right parents for your child.
