Jake & Ashley
Hello from Ashley & Jake & Makenna in CA!
Dear Birth Mother: Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We are honored that you are considering our family as part of your journey.
We know that your love for your baby is endless and admire you for your selflessness. We hope that through reading our profile you get to know who we are as a family and more about our lives.
Adoption is something we’ve been drawn to for some time and we know in our hearts that this is the path we are meant to walk.
The road to our daughter was a difficult one and we aren’t able to pursue another pregnancy. Even before this, we had talked about adoption as a beautiful way to grow our family and the fact that we’re here now seems like life coming full-circle.
We’re so glad to be meeting YOU and beginning our adoption journey! Our promise to you is to love your baby as our own and provide a life that is filled with love, laughter, family, adventures, and care.
Here’s Our Story: We met in 2005 in college. We dated briefly before Ashley went to Spain for a semester abroad. When Jake made the trip half-way around the world to visit, we both knew this relationship was the real-deal. Our love grows stronger and stronger over the years.
We married in 2011 and traveled the world together adventuring in Europe, South America, the Caribbean, and Mexico. In 2015 we welcomed our daughter, Makenna, and have continued adventuring together as a family.
Jake is a firefighter-paramedic and Ashley is a speech-language pathologist. Jake loves his job helping others.
Ashley loves her work in an elementary school helping children to improve their communication. Ashley works part-time, and
Jake’s non-traditional schedule allows for lots of time together as a family.
We live within walking distance to the beach and enjoy frequent beach days, bike rides, park visits, and relaxing at home together.
We are fortunate to live close-by our families and spend lots of time together. In fact, some of our family lives right across the street! It makes it super convenient to get together regularly. It is such a blessing to be surrounded by family and close friends, many of which have young children. We’ve had a long road of trying to grow our family and we are hoping to be blessed with a baby through adoption.
Jake was born and raised in Riverside, CA. He had a wonderful childhood with two great parents that ensured he became the best he could be. He grew up playing baseball, soccer, tennis and swimming. He also enjoyed surfing, snowboarding, BMX, hunting and fishing.
After graduating high school, Jake moved to San Diego where he began pursuing his firefighter-paramedic career. Since then, Jake has worked as a firefighter-paramedic for over 10 years. He describes his job as incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. Working a “shift work” schedule provides him with multiple days off in a row to be a good father and husband.
Jake and Ashley’s schedules allow them to take many vacations and be home together.
One of Jake’s favorite things to do as a family is to go out on his boat searching for whales, dolphins and seals. He looks forward to adding another deckhand to our crew to share in those amazing memories and special experiences you get in nature.
More on Jake written by Ashley: Jake is the most amazing husband and father. I continue to fall more in love with him as the years go by. He is generous, romantic, strong, loving, and keeps me laughing through the good times and hard times. Jake constantly puts the needs of others before his own and always with a smile. He is charismatic and can befriend anyone. He knows me better than anyone else and is truly my best friend.
Jake isn’t afraid to have a princess tea party with Makenna or get dirty playing outside. He loves to teach her new things, from riding a bike to casting a fishing pole.
Ashley grew up in a rural community of San Diego surrounded by farms and wide-open spaces. As a child, Ashley enjoyed riding horses, raising pigs for 4-H, dancing, and swimming. Ashley grew up with a large family and her extended family regularly got together for holidays and birthdays.
After high school, Ashley went on to college to complete her bachelor’s degree, study abroad, and earn her master’s degree. Now Ashley works part-time as a speech-language pathologist in an elementary school where she gets to help children improve their communication skills.
Working part-time is the perfect balance of advancing her career and spending time as a parent, not to mention having summers off, which allows for time to travel as a family.
Ashley enjoys working out, spending time with friends and family, and taking Makenna to the beach and countryside where she grew up. Ashley can’t wait to have another child to mother and spend time with going to the park, beach, zoo, play-dates, and visits to Jake’s fire station.
More on Ashley, written by Jake: Ashley is smart, funny, loving, caring, thoughtful, and nurturing. She’s hard working, focused, dedicated and driven. She doesn’t settle and always aims high. It takes a special type of women to be married to a fireman and she is that special kind. She’s an amazing mother who is so patient and caring for our daughter and has a mama bear side that always ensures Makenna is safe and protected.
Love Makes a Family
Meet Big Sister, Makenna: Makenna is so thrilled to be a big sister. She loves babies and is incredibly caring with younger children. Makenna loves to sing, dance, swim, ride bikes, play at the park, and read. We know that she will be the most amazing big sister to your baby. Her zest for life and excitement to have a sibling are infectious. We can’t wait to complete our little family!
A big reason we love where we live is we are really close to both of our families. We are less than an hour away from most of our family members providing us with a strong family network of support.
We get together with family for holidays, birthdays, and vacations. For holidays, both Ashley’s parents, younger sister Hailey and brother-in-law Lauren, join with Jake’s parents, younger sister Allison, aunts, uncles, and grandma. Traditionally we’re together for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and birthdays. We consider our close friends to be family and are together regularly. Jake’s cousin and her husband live across the street with their 2-year-old daughter and many of our neighborhood friends have young children or babies on the way.
Our Holiday Traditions: Of all the holidays and reasons to celebrate, Christmas is our family’s favorite. Every year we decorate the tree and bake cookies for Santa. We watch the holiday boat parade, ride a Polar Express train, and ride our bikes around the neighborhood to look at all the lights.
Our Home and Closing Thoughts
We live in a charming little beach community in San Diego county. Our neighborhood is something out of a storybook. Everyone knows each other, with block parties in the summer, and monthly walkabout nights hosted by the shops and restaurants. From our house we can walk to the elementary school, park, and beach. Everyone in our neighborhood decorates for Halloween trick-or-treating, there’s a Christmas bike cruise, and 4th of July parade. We truly love where we live!
Meet Lloyd & Jack: Jack is a tabby cat we rescued in 2009. He is extremely friendly, loves children, and enjoys greeting people walking by the front of our house.
Lloyd is a Visla-Labrador mix we rescued in 2014. He is a big sweetheart who loves to run and swim and fetch his ball. Lloyd adores children and loves to get hugs from all the neighborhood kids.
Our Life As Parents: Our greatest joy has been being parents. Our goal is to raise happy, loving, confident, and well-rounded children. We want to instill strong morals and kindness. As parents, we’ll do whatever it takes to provide a safe, supportive and loving home. We want our children to laugh daily and know the bond of a loving family.
A Special Message To You: We want to thank you for learning more about us. It’s hard to summarize our lives in one booklet, but we hope this gives you a glimpse of who we are and what matters to us. We are committed to our family and completing it through adoption.
It’s our deepest hope that you would choose us, but no matter what we know that you will make the best decision for your baby.
