Jim & Robyn

Hello there!

We’re Robyn and Jim from Southern California. We are so grateful to you for reading our profile and getting to know us better. We hope we have an opportunity to learn more about you, too! We respect that the decision you’re making is not an easy one and we think you’re very brave. Even though it might not feel like it right now, your courage and strength are inspiring. Please know that we will be here to support you if you want us to be.

We are thrilled to build our family through adoption. Jim’s younger sister is adopted… and so is his dad! We believe not all families have to be created through biology… and we can promise you that we will unconditionally love the child we’re lucky enough to parent.

What makes us happy:
– Traveling the world
– Spontaneous trips to our favorite ice cream shop
– We love the beach: swimming, playing in the sand, having picnics, or simply reading and napping under the beach umbrella
– Going to see movies in the park during the summer, or having movie nights at home in the winter and snuggling on the couch
– Hiking the US National Parks

Our Story:
Believe it or not, we met on a blind camping date. Mutual friends decided we were perfect for each other because we both rode bicycles and used the same brand of toothpaste — seriously, we were matched based on toothpaste! Anyhow, the four of us packed up our tents and set off into the woods for the weekend. The whole thing could have been a disaster, but it wasn’t. It was perfect, and we have been inseparable ever since.

We are best friends who love to make each other laugh, support each other’s dreams, and make the most out of every day. We have been married for 14 years. Our relationship is based on love, respect, humor, friendship, and honesty… and we cannot wait to add a kiddo into our happy home!

A little bit about Robyn, by Jim:
Robyn is my best friend in the world. She inspires me, supports me, and surprises me every single day.

It’s easy to imagine Robyn as a mother because she is so much like her own mother: warm and strong, kind and full of joy. When I first met Robyn’s mom, she immediately treated me like I was a member of the family. That’s what Robyn is like — no one is ever left out when she is around. She makes everybody feel included and special.

Robyn has a very positive outlook on life. That phrase “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade” could be her personal motto. She makes the best out of every situation, and her love of life is contagious to everyone around her.

She can’t help but dance to the music in the grocery store. Once, she got a whole group of people in the frozen foods aisle to dance to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller!” It was hilarious. Robyn also knows endless amounts of trivia. Ask her a question about dinosaurs, Shakespeare, or the planet Jupiter, and she’ll probably be able to answer it!

Robyn is very honest, but gentle about it. I nominate her “Most Likely To Tell Me I Have Spinach in My Teeth.” She somehow always manages to tell the truth without hurting anyone’s feelings.

By the way, animals love Robyn. Our family joke is that she’s a Disney princess… because she is followed by friendly wildlife wherever she goes.

Robyn’s Favorites:

– Knitting and sewing (my very stylish grandma taught me how)
– Yoga, Swimming, and bike riding
– Mint chocolate chip ice cream
– Performing improv comedy — I love making people laugh
– Collecting vintage costume jewelry

A little bit about Jim, by Robyn:
Jim was meant to be a dad. He is sweet, gentle, and protective. He is also very patient and never raises his voice or loses his temper. Jim is truly the kindest person I have ever met. He has been my rock and my best friend for so many years. I count my lucky stars that he’s in my life.

Jim is incredibly respectful to women. I know that if we raise a boy, he will learn from Jim’s example how to treat women as equals. And if we raise a little girl, she will understand that she deserves to be treated only with respect.

Jim is so fun — he is always up for adventure. If I say, “I’m bored,” he grabs the keys to the car and the next thing I know, we’re taking a road trip, trying a fun restaurant… or even taking a surfing lesson! He really knows how to go with the flow.

He is a great listener (which is fabulous, because I’m a great talker)! He’s genuinely interested in other people’s opinions and lives. He’s the type of person who makes a new friend on the plane every time he travels.

He can fix anything and everything. He’s like a magician! I think it’s because he’s so dedicated and determined. He’ll do research and keep trying until he figures out a solution. He never gets discouraged. He’s so dependable.

Nobody has ever made me laugh as hard as Jim. Being with Jim makes me want to be a better person. I love him to pieces.

Jim’s Favorites:
– Hiking in Sequoia National Forest
– Spending the day at the beach
– Going to outdoor music and movie venues
– Weekend road trips
– Robyn’s homemade chocolate brownies

Our Work:
Robyn is a designer, artist, writer, and teacher. She is a creative spirit who feels lucky that Jim supports her unconventional career. She works from home and has a very flexible schedule. She will be a stay-at-home mom.

Jim works as manager in the creative department for a successful company in Southern California. His boss once said that Jim is “grace under fire” because he never loses his cool, even under stress. Jim’s attitude has a calming in influence on everyone around him.

Our Home:
We live in a safe, diverse neighborhood in Los Angeles. It is filled with parks and playgrounds, schools, lots of families, farmers markets, and child-friendly restaurants and cafes. We are a bike ride away from several beaches and a quick drive to the mountains.

Our backyard is our oasis. It is full of plants and fruit trees. There is plenty of room to draw with sidewalk chalk, play, and have friends over. Because Robyn’s studio is in the house, there are tons of arts and crafts stuff to enjoy — we can’t wait to fill our home with a child’s artwork. Our house is comfortable, cozy, and filled with personality!

We have two adorable, lovable, snuggly cats. Penny and Alice are sisters and BFFs. We’re lucky because our kitties are very child-friendly and patient. Our niece and our friends’ kids love to visit Penny and Alice, and we cannot wait until we can introduce our own child to the cats, too. Who doesn’t want a cute, fluffy buddy to sleep at the foot of their bed?!

Our Families:

We are both very close to our families. We love every moment we can spend with them and feel lucky that they’re so supportive of everything we do, including our choice to adopt!

– Both sets of our parents have been happily married over 45 years.
– We are godparents to our niece, Hannah, who loves going to Disneyland every time she visits us.
– We also consider our friends to be our second family. We’re lucky to live so close to our best friends, and we’re always there for each other.

Your child will experience…
– Home-cooked meals together
– Fun, loud Thanksgivings with Robyn’s family in the mountains.
– Making gingerbread houses for Christmas at Jim’s family’s home
– An excellent education. We promise to support their studies, no matter what field they choose — just like our own parents did for us.
– Spending time at the beach
– Hanging out at the parks and playgrounds near our home
– Reading together everyday
– Traveling the world and learning about other cultures
– Adoring grandparents… and aunts, uncles, and cousins!
– Endless love from us. We’ve got a bottomless pool to share.

We promise…
…to celebrate and support whatever your little one wants to be in life. We will guide them through it all with unconditional love. We will provide a home filled with love, laughter, and creativity… balanced with stability and security. It is our greatest wish to raise a self-confident, happy individual who knows he or she can accomplish anything — The sky’s the limit!

Whether you choose to go through this adoption with us, or if you opt to go down another path, we wish you nothing but the best. We are sending you lots of love as you make this incredibly difficult decision.
