John & Melissa
This Is Our Story
Hello and Thank You!
We are John and Melissa from sunny Southern California and we are very excited to share our story with you. We want to thank you for taking the time to get to know us and we hope in reading this letter, that you will find comfort and reassurance, knowing that we will always love and care for your child unconditionally. We cannot wait to be parents and neither one of us can imagine our lives without children. We know your decision is a difficult one, and we cannot thank you enough for considering us.
This is Our Story, written by Melissa
Although we grew up 1,000 miles apart (John grew up near Orlando, FL) we met in my
hometown of Pittsburgh, PA while attending college. I was interning as an athletic trainer
for John’s college football team. Our first conversation was on an eight hour bus ride and
we talked the whole way. Needless to say, we hit it off instantly! We dated throughout our senior year and in the fall after we graduated, we were engaged on the 50 yard line, where we first saw each other. We were married a year later and then moved promptly to California where John served as an officer in the Marine Corps.
We are a happily married couple with an energetic dog and great families. We have an amazing marriage and cannot imagine life without each other. We are truly each other’s best friends! We also have great families that are thrilled to welcome a baby into our family. We love being with our families and enjoy every minute we spend with them.
We have a great love for travel and learning about other places in our country and the world. We love being outdoors and active. We cannot wait to share all of this with a very special little baby.
We both have strong faith, and hold God at the center of our home. While we struggled with infertility, we know that it is beyond a doubt God’s plan for us to adopt and it has strengthened our marriage for sure.

Melissa is passionate, caring, loyal, and tough. She has an infectious personality and can strike up a conversation with anyone at anytime just like old friends. Our first conversation lasted eight hours and I knew right away she was the one for me. She is a great ice skating teacher and her kids love her. Her skaters and the parents have told me what a great impact she has had on their lives. She is even a good teacher for puppies. She potty trained our dog Rocket in one day!!!
Melissa is sweet and fun-loving. She is always ready to make things that we may not want to do into a game. We have so much fun on road trips, seeing new things, trying new activities, and of course, having a great time talking to each other. Going to the beach or the mountains with her and Rocket is my favorite way to spend a day. I love being with her every moment I can be and she is truly my best friend.
Melissa is disciplined and when she sets her mind to something, it is going to happen. Whether it is in her job, at home, or with friends, she is going to do what she says. I admire her strength and willingness to stick with a tough task until it is done. I know that with her loving spirit, inner strength, and faith in God she will make a great mom. She makes life fun and there is constant energy when she is in the room.
Career note: Melissa is a Professional Figure Skating Instructor. She love working with children, nurturing them, getting to know and be a part of their families, and watching them grow into young adults. In addition, the flexibility to choose how many hours and when she work is a huge plus.

I can’t think of another person I would rather spend time with than John and I thank God every day that he is my husband. I can always count on him no matter what. I can tell him things that I wouldn’t tell anyone else and it’s always met without judgment or criticism. John is practical, hard working, and the smartest person I know…also the funniest. John is always finding new ways to make me laugh. He makes me (and everyone else) laugh all the time with his crazy voices and made up characters!
John is comfortable as the center of attention or in the background. He takes the lead when it is needed, but is easy going and content in any situation. John is the most optimistic and encouraging person I know, rarely complains about anything, and knows how to find the fun in tough times. Whenever I have a difficult situation facing me, he is always there to listen to me, hug me, and give good advice.
He loves making up and playing games. He seems to have no limit to his energy when there is a fun time to be had. He has so much fun with our niece and nephew and kids always seem drawn to him because of his silliness! He cannot wait to be a father and I know in my heart that these qualities will make him a great dad.
Career note: John is the General Manager of a distribution center. He is very happy with his current role and company. He works close to home and has flexible hours. The job is stable and allows us to live very comfortably, which will allow Melissa the opportunity to be a stay at home mom.
Our Family and dog Rocket
The People We Love!
Melissa’s parents have been happily married for 45 years. They live 30 min away and cannot wait to be first time grandparents!!! We see them often. Melissa’s sister lives in North Carolina with her husband and they cannot wait to be an aunt and uncle!
John’s parents live in Florida, where John grew up, and have been happily married for 48 years. They are really excited to have more grandkids! John’s sister and her husband live in Georgia, and have been so supportive and helpful to us during this process. She had two beautiful adopted children of her own and we love them very much! Even though the family is on the East Coast, we get together several times a year.
We are so happy that both families are fully supportive of our adoption plan and are as excited as we are about adding a precious little one to our family!
Meet Our Dog Rocket!
We rescued Rocket at 3 months old, and he is currently 2 ½. He is a Labrador retriever mix. He is so patient and laid back! He loves everybody, especially little kids! He loves it when the kids in the neighborhood pile up on him and give him lots hugs and attention.
We say he’s a celebrity in our neighborhood and it is not rare to hear “Rocket” yelled out of a passing car window by the neighborhood kids. He even has several cat friends that come right up to him on our daily walks. He gets so excited, but keeps it cool! Rocket will love having a built in playmate!
Our Home and Our Promises
Our Home and Vacation Cabin
We live close to the beach and mountains. If you ask us, we say it’s perfect! We love our home and have owned it for 17 years. Our house is a 4 bedroom, 3 bath house with a playroom and a big backyard, in a wonderful, safe community. People say our house is very cozy and relaxing! It’s decorated in a casual beach style.
Our neighborhood has the highest rated schools in our city, and our elementary and middle schools are within walking distance. We have friendly neighbors that are out in the evenings talking to each other and watching their children play. There are two large parks with amazing playgrounds within walking distance of our house.
We bought a vacation cabin in our local mountains five years ago with the hope of creating fun and lasting family memories. In the summer, we enjoy hiking and swimming in the lake, and in the winter we like to ski and play in the snow.
As Parents We Promise:
It is our desire to provide the same experiences that our parents gave to us; a fun, warm, loving and stable home where a child can feel safe and secure, knowing that they have our full support.
