John & Michael
Hi! We’re John and Michael!
DEAR BIRTH MOTHER,
First, thank you for taking the time to consider us as adoptive parents. We admire and respect the difficult decision you are considering and hope that the next few pages give you a better sense of who we are as parents and how excited we are to grow our family. We look forward to welcoming your child into our home and showering them with unconditional love.
John & Michael
“Adventure Is Out There!”
A line from Up, one of our favorite movies, perfectly summarizes how we live our lives.
From traveling across California to running marathons around the world, from buying our dream home to starting a family, we see life as an incredible adventure… one we couldn’t be more excited to share with each other, with our son Miles and soon, with another child.
We met nine years ago in Los Angeles through a mutual friend and a first “friend date” quickly grew into more. We spent several years doing the things we love to do together – visiting Disneyland, competing in scavenger hunts, cooking delicious dinners, and traveling – then in April of 2014, we decided to get married in front of 150 of our closest loved ones at a friend’s home in Malibu.
Two years later, in October 2016, we adopted our son Miles from Tacoma, Washington. We’ve loved watching him laugh, learn and grow over the past two years and feel like now is the perfect time to for us to start the adoption process again. Becoming parents has truly been our best adventure yet and the three of us are excited to grow our family.

Kindness, honesty, devotion, and a wonderful sense of humor are just a few of the many traits that make John an incredible man and a fantastic father.
From the moment we first met at an outdoor screening of The Muppet Movie to watching him raise our son Miles, I’ve always admired his caring, good-natured heart. As a television writer in Los Angeles, John has worked on shows including Brothers & Sisters, Smash, and the NBC comedy Superstore. John’s schedule allows for him to take time off between seasons of the shows he works on, which has given him plenty of time at home to bond with Miles.
Fun Fact: John also writes jokes for Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live.
What has made our adoption journey all the more special is that John’s father was adopted just after birth. When embarking on the path to fatherhood, both John and I knew adoption was a way to connect our future to his family’s past. Watching him parent Miles has been the greatest joy of our relationship. His devotion to our family, generous spirit, and compassion for loved ones are just a few of the traits that make him such a wonderful father.

MEET MICHAEL (By John)
There’s no one in the world who is a better dad than Michael. He’s a caring, sweet, child-at-heart whose spark fills any room he enters. Having previously worked as a TV host and reality producer on shows like Survivor, Top Chef and The Biggest Loser, Michael found true professional and creative fulfillment when he finally realized a lifelong dream and became a Disney Imagineer — one of the people responsible for designing Disney Theme Parks around the world. Michael is lucky to work less than ten minutes from home and, as a family-friendly company, Disney offers paternity leave and access to a Disney Day Care right across the street from his office (Miles is already enrolled!).
In addition to being an incredible father, finding fun adventures for us to do around Southern California, Michael also loves being uncle to our four nephews and “the boys” love him back. He’s always bringing our family and friends together whether for a low-key dinner at home, a trip to a Dodgers game, an afternoon at the beach or a weekend road trip. As his grandmother used to say, Michael doesn’t let “the grass grow under his feet!”
Favorite TV Shows: Survivor, Shark Tank, The West Wing
Favorite Children’s Movie: Beauty and the Beast
Favorite Disneyland Ride: Splash Mountain
Favorite Food: Homemade Burgers on the Grill
Favorite Holiday: Fourth of July
Favorite Vacation Spot: Italy
Favorite Marathon: Boston
Favorite Dessert: Ice Cream (Peanut Butter Swirl is his favorite!)
Our Family & Friends
OUR FRIENDS & FAMILY
We both come from close-knit families and are so grateful to have had the love and support of parents who wanted nothing but the best for us – it’s something we strive to give our children, too.
Although our parents and siblings are scattered across the country (and around the world — John’s brother lives in Europe!), we’re lucky that we are able to regularly spend time with them. We also have an incredible support network of friends who live nearby and are like extended family to us. They are all love spending time with Miles and are excited to see us expand our family.
We regularly get together with our family and friends: hosting game nights and dinners (not to mention annual Holiday and Oscar parties) and taking weekend trips with Miles’ friends.
Miles is a sweet, curious, and loving toddler. He can usually be found singing songs, reading books, doing puzzles, snuggling his stuffed animals, playing outside or his favorite thing — playing with trains! He’s warm and affectionate with other children and we’re sure will be a loving and supporting older brother.
Our House & Our Promise
After Miles was born, we realized we had outgrown our first home and started looking for someplace bigger for our growing family. When we saw a historic California Craftsman with a big back yard come up for sale, we knew we’d found our dream home!
What initially drew us to the 3-bedroom home was the tree-lined neighborhood, with a large park, great schools and many of young families nearby. Beyond our neighborhood, we’re also close to many of LA’s freeways, meaning we’re less than an hour away from the beach, the mountains or The Happiest Place on Earth — Disneyland!
Because we love to entertain and have friends and family visit, we’re currently in the process of completely renovating the backyard — adding a pool, deck, large grassy play area and most importantly a guest house for our parents to come spend lots of time with their grandchildren!
Thanks for taking the time to get to know us a little more. It’s impossible to share everything about ourselves in just a few pages, but if you’re interested in learning more about us, please reach out. Having Miles has been the most wonderful experience of our lives and we look forward to more adventures as we grow our family.
Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts as you make this important decision.
