Josh & Kacy
Dear Birth Mother: Words cannot express how grateful we are that you would consider us to be parents to your child. What we can say is that we are so excited to meet the courageous woman who will be our future child’s birth mother.
Adoption is our first choice for our path to having a family because we believe that there is an amazing child already coming into this world who is meant to be loved unconditionally by us.
Your child would be coming into our large, loving family, which includes several people who were also adopted. We hope that as you get to know us, you will feel that your child is meant to be a part of our family and that will bring you some peace as you make this selfless decision.
About Us As A Couple:
• We love staying active together, including running and mountain biking
• We love a good Farmer’s Market
• Our favorite place to visit is Cabo San Lucas, Mexico (where we got engaged!)
• Our ideal Sunday morning is walking to Starbucks with our dog
• Our favorite shows are Mad Men, The Walking Dead, a bunch of stuff on HBO and most reality shows on Bravo
About Us, by Kacy: WE MET ONLINE, so our first date was brunch since neither of us wanted to commit to a full dinner date. However, we both knew after that first date that we were going to get married.
We have been together for over 8 years. Those years have been filled with the most incredible moments, like our trip to Europe, rescuing our dog, time with our family, mountain biking, getting married and buying our house. During those years we have also supported each other through many challenges, like job changes, my grandfather passing away, and family illnesses.
Josh proposed in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, which is a special place for our family. My family has been going there on vacation for over 15 years. We always look forward to riding ATVs in the sand dunes on the beach so that is where Josh proposed. It was perfect, doing something we truly love with family there to see the proposal.
Our wedding took place at the Santa Barbara courthouse with our immediate family and then we had a big brunch party with all our family and friends. We can honestly say that we had so much fun planning our wedding because we made it a family activity. We had so much fun celebrating with all our family and friends!
We didn’t get married until 2 years ago when we decided to buy our house and start a family. Before that, we were together because we truly just wanted to be together.
Once we were both established in our careers and happy with where we were in our lives, we started talking about what we wanted our future to look like. We both agreed that we wanted to establish roots near family by buying a house. We were not sure if we were going to have a family, but after I started talking to Josh about my long-time desire to adopt, we both felt excited to start this journey!
About Kacy: I WAS BORN and RAISED IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA by parents who were high school sweethearts. From day one, I loved to be busy. I loved to be outdoors, ride my mini ATV, bike, grow strawberries and play with my younger brother and dogs. Most of my extended family lived nearby when I was growing up so weekends were almost always spent with grandparents or cousins.
I went to undergrad at the University of California, Davis and majored in clinical nutrition and minored in psychology. I’m passionate about my work as a dietitian treating eating disorders and I am grateful that I will have flexibility in my schedule to spend time with my child as well. I can’t wait to share my love of food with my child, nurture whatever interests they have, and hopefully share a love for the outdoors and animals with them!
More About Kacy, by Josh: Kacy is the most selfless person that I have ever met. She always puts everyone else’s needs before her own.
She is funny, smart, a great organizer and has an endless amount of energy, which all make her my soulmate and are all qualities that will make her an amazing mother. She also isn’t afraid or too proud to ask friends and family for advice, which I think will come in very handy as we raise a child. Just being with her makes me a better person, and I don’t know what I would do without her.
Fun Facts About Kacy:
• She’s the oldest of 10 grandchildren on her dad’s side
• Places she’s traveled to 17 states and 8 countries
• She can’t sing or dance
• She’s terrified of honey and syrup
• Her first car was a pickup truck to haul her dirt bike
About Josh: I was born in Berkeley, CA and raised in the Walnut Creek in the East Bay Area, a 45-minute drive from San Francisco, CA. My parents are from New Jersey, so I had a combination of the East Coast and West Coast in my upbringing.
I worked hard in school and was a good student because I wanted to make sure I could go to a good college. My true passion as a kid was sports. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year, I was either playing an organized sport or playing a sport with my friends in the neighborhood or at a local park. I also loved all kinds of music including country, rap and hard rock and played piano when I was a kid.
I went to college at UCLA and studied history and economics. I had a great time and built friendships that are still really close 20 years later. I am a commercial real estate broker and truly love my job. I get to interact with people all day long. My job is challenging and no two days are the same. I have an incredible amount of flexibility because I am my own boss, so I can work from home for at least half the week!
More About Josh, by Kacy: Josh is the most kind, caring and genuine person I have ever met. I saw right away that he was hard working and responsible, things that were almost impossible to find in the LA dating scene.
The best example of how amazing and thoughtful Josh is are the meaningful gifts he thinks of, such as a donation to an animal charity instead of flowers on Valentine’s Day (I am not impressed by roses and I want to rescue every dog.) I know Josh will be an amazing dad because he is so attentive to all those around him.
Fun Facts About Josh:
• Very good karaoke singer
• Rode bike down a mountain in Canada after being dropped off by helicopter
• Scared of spiders but not snakes
• Ran a ½ marathon to support shelter dogs in Los Angeles
Our Family and Friends
Our Family and Friends: FAMILY IS EVERYTHING TO US. Whether it’s just relaxing in our backyard or going on vacation with our family, there’s nothing we’d rather be doing.
Kacy’s parents, Glen and Kathy, live less than a mile from us and most of Kacy’s extended family lives within 20 minutes of us. Kacy’s family is big, but very close, and they find reasons to get together on weekends, like for birthdays, doggy play dates, and of course holidays. On Thanksgiving and Hanukkah, it is typical for over 25 family members to be together to celebrate.
Josh’s family lives in Northern California and is small, but they spend the holidays with Kacy’s family now and come visit several times throughout the year. Josh’s parents, Matt and Sue, and his brother Andrew, are all very close and talk multiple times per week. They love to discuss sports and debate anything and everything.
One of our biggest family traditions is to spend July 4th in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Kacy’s cousin Carrie brought her baby, Ellis, to Cabo this summer and the extended family all enjoyed watching Ellis see Cabo for the first time. We know that no matter how busy we all are, this is one trip we can count on every year.
Our friends are so important to us. Josh’s circle of friends include many of his college friends and Kacy’s groups of friends include many she met through work and some from as far back as middle school. We can’t wait to have play dates with our friends and their kids!
Our Home and Closing Thoughts
Our Home and Community: WE LIVE IN A SUBURB OUTSIDE OF LOS ANGELES, the same area that Kacy grew up in and where almost her entire family still lives today.
Our town is the best of both worlds – a small, tight knit community and close to the city where there is so much to do. We love that there are lots of outdoor activities to do right by us, like hiking at the beach, mountain biking or walking to local restaurants from our house.
Our house is on a double cul-de-sac with a park at one end and there’s a pre-school and elementary school next to the park. Our neighbors are all nice, quiet and some even have young children. Our house backs up to a hill so we don’t have any neighbors behind us, just a nice big backyard. Inside, our house has lots of space for family gatherings, a guest room, a home office to allow us to work from home at times and of course a room for a nursery. We love cooking and our kitchen is open to our family room so we can cook and enjoy spending time with people that we have over.
About Our Dog, Ansel: We both couldn’t wait to have a dog so as soon as we were ready to move in together, we rescued our dog, Ansel, from the local shelter. He came right up to us in the kennel and was so sweet and cute. After the first month, Ansel learned that we will do anything and everything for him and then he became the little prince that he is now. We couldn’t love him anymore than we do! He is allergic to nearly everything so we have to give him a specific type of dog food mixed with pumpkin (to help his digestion.) He’s had two knee surgeries and requires daily eye drops due to an eye condition. We think he’s perfect.
In Closing: Thank you isn’t enough, so we want to let you know our promise to you as a birth mother. We promise that we will create a home environment where your child can grow because they will feel endless love. Your child will know their adoption story and we will make sure they feel pride in it. We will nurture your child to reach their full potential by providing unconditional love, the best education available, surrounding them with family and providing them with fun and adventure. No matter what life has in store for us, we promise to always be there for your child.
We are so grateful that you took the time to get to know about us and our dreams for our family.
