Kelly and Mike
Dear Birth Mother
We are Kelly and Mike from Northern California. Thank you for taking the time to read our profile and for considering us as adoptive parents. It has been our dream to start a family of our own! We respect this difficult decision you’ve made to place your child for adoption and wish you peace of mind and comfort throughout this process. We look forward to welcoming a child into our home with unconditional love, support and strong morals, and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping our dreams come true. We hope you enjoy getting to know us!
Our Story: One can say that our love was many years in the making. Mike played on the same Little League team as Kelly’s brother when we were young – but it took until adulthood for our love to blossom. Even though we lived a block away from each other and had many mutual friends, joining eHarmony was the catalyst to reuniting us! Fast forward to 2010, Mike proposed while we were cutting down our Christmas tree, one of our holiday traditions that we look forward to doing each year, and we were married within the year surrounded by close friends and family.
While we’re happy relaxing at home on the weekends, we also make it a point to track down baseball fields and stadiums in new cities, attend the local country singer songwriter series at a winery down the road, and take long drives around the Bay Area to explore the many sites that make our community such a special place to live.
A Few of our Favorite Things:
- Watching baseball – the team doesn’t matter, we love the sport that much!
- Hosting friends and family for holiday meals
- Making homemade pizza
- Taking our dogs to the baseball field to run around
- Working on small projects in our home
- Exploring our downtown
- Enjoying time with our niece
- Using the veggies from our garden in our homecooked meals
I grew up in San Jose with my parents and younger brother in the same house my parents live in today. My parents worked in public service on opposite shifts so someone was always home. Wednesday night family dinners is one of my favorite memories; it’s likely where I got my love for cooking and why I feel it’s so important to eat dinner together.
I’ve always preferred reading to watching TV, which led me to graduate college with a journalism degree. Today, I’m a marketing director at a company I’ve worked at for the last 12 years where
I enjoy a flexible schedule and work from home three days a week. I’ve also volunteered with the Junior League for more than 10 years. There, I’ve taught parents the importance of reading to their children, served on their board of directors, organized community volunteer opportunities, and learned how to fund raise; it’s a fun way to meet like-minded women while also working with numerous nonprofits focused on improving the lives of children.
When I think about raising our future child, I get excited about sharing my grandmother’s apple crisp recipe, playing in the dirt while gardening, and snuggling while reading some of my favorite childhood books.
Meet Kelly by Mike: Kelly has a smile that lights up a room. She has a gentle personality that allows her to connect on levels with people that few others can. She is caring, smart, beautiful, and has all the natural traits of a devoted mother. I am so excited to see her pass on her love of reading, gardening, and cooking and baking!
I grew up in San Jose with my parents and younger brother in the house my family lived in for 30 years. My dad worked in the newspaper business and my mom ran her own day care out of our home until I was 15 years old, when she went back to school to become an elementary school teacher.
I’m the athletic director and baseball coach at a local high school and have spent my entire life involved in sports. My dad instilled a love for baseball in me and I always knew I wanted to coach after my playing days were done. I love working on the baseball field and passing my love for the game on to high school athletes. Coaching is such a rewarding profession as I get the opportunity to engage with my athletes on the field while also teaching them important life values.
I love to do anything that involves being outside, which most of the time involves sports of some kind. Before becoming an athletic director and baseball coach, I played baseball and football growing up and through high school. I now enjoy golf, baseball, barbecuing, walking our dogs, and hiking around the local trails in our home town.
I am excited to share my love of sports and being active with our future child. I’m ready to become an “expert” in whatever activity they take an interest in. I can’t wait to introduce them to sports and all the positive life lessons that come with it.
Meet Mike by Kelly: The word “passionate” immediately comes to mind when I think about Mike. His love for coaching and baseball is unprecedented and only matched by his enthusiasm to drop everything to play with our niece. He loves tinkering on home projects, wrestling with the dogs and his hugs make everything better. I joke that he’s a child at heart and I can’t wait to see his lightheartedness come through as a dad.
We live in Morgan Hill, California which is just south of San Francisco. We bought our three-bedroom, 2.5-bath home in 2018 and we couldn’t be happier! Not only does it have a large backyard for the dogs (and eventual children) to play in, we also had enough room to build three garden beds; Kelly loves to garden and share her harvest with family and trade with the neighbors for their eggs and honey. Our downtown area has many festivals that are very kid friendly and it gives us a small town feel in the midst of the Bay Area. We have a park in our community where we walk the dogs and our neighborhood is “the destination” in our town for trick or treating.
Our Pets: Our pets are all great with kids and will love to have a little one in our home! Our cat, Mocha, loves to wake Kelly up at 4 a.m. to eat and then crawl back into bed to fall asleep. We adopted her the same week we brought home our now 10-year old golden retriever, Mac. His favorite thing in the world is playing catch and going to Mike’s baseball field to chase the birds! This past summer we brought home another golden retriever, a puppy we named Cooper. And despite being a dog, we joke that he’s as curious as a cat and won’t leave our sides in fear of missing out on something!
We are very close with both of our families and enjoy spending time with them on a regular basis. They’ve been incredibly supportive of our decision to grow our family through adoption and are excited to welcome a baby into our home.
This will be the first grandchild on Kelly’s side of the family. Her brother, Brian, and his fiancé, Sara, live in Arizona. Kelly and Brian have a close relationship and we all get to see each other a few times a year. Her parents are a short 20-minute drive from us and are enjoying retirement. Kelly gets her love of volunteering from her mom who volunteers with multiple health organizations and her green thumb from her dad who is known in his neighborhood for his beautiful yard.
Mike’s immediate family includes his dad and stepmom, and brother Kevin, his sister-in-law, Chadia, and their daughter Mackenzie. We’re less than a 10-minute drive from Mike’s family, which allows us to see our niece each week.
Mike’s mom passed away in 2002 from cancer, and knowing she never met Kelly, or our future child has been tough, but her memory lives on and we know she’d be so proud of our decision to adopt. Mike’s dad remarried Natalie several years later, expanding our family with her four children, their spouses and 13 grandkids. Despite this new dynamic, we’ve been able to maintain our small family holiday traditions while creating new memories with the broader family. Mike’s dad instilled his passion for sports in him while his mom provided a love for teaching and working with children.
Thank You: Thank you for taking the time to get to know us! We admire your decision to choose adoption and if we are lucky enough to be chosen, we promise to surround your baby with unconditional love. We appreciate this opportunity and are excited to see our dream of being parents become a reality through adoption.
