Ken & Colleen
Warm Greetings from Colleen & Ken in Seattle!
Dear Birth Mother: We can’t wait to meet the person who is so generous that they would consider sharing with us with the greatest joy that we will ever experience in our lives.
We are sitting here wondering what we could ever write that accurately conveys how appreciative we are and also how much we will love and keep your child safe. Regardless of whatever choice you make for your child, we want to sincerely thank you for considering adoption, and wish you clarity and peace on your journey.
Our Story, by Colleen: Our love story began in Chicago at a New Year’s Eve party thrown by mutual friends. Ken was living in Atlanta and I was in Seattle when we met. We complement each other well, because while I am more of a realist, Ken might be considered the dreamer in the relationship.
I thought that there was no way a long-distance relationship would ever work out, but Ken proved me wrong, thank goodness, because we can’t imagine our lives without each other. We consider ourselves equal partners in life who share financial and domestic responsibilities.
Though it may sound cliché, TRUST and LOVE is the most important foundation in our relationship. We never leave the house without saying “I love you” and hugging each other goodbye.
Things We Love To Do:
• Discover new things
• Traveling to other countries
• Trying new foods
• Finding new corners of Seattle that we haven’t discovered yet
• Enjoying the Pacific Northwest
• Spending time near the water
• We also have had season tickets to the Seattle Sounders soccer team for the past 10 years. We can’t wait to buy a pair of noise cancelling headsets so our future baby can join us to root on our favorite team!
While we obviously want our future child to share in the things we enjoy, we are excited to learn what kinds of hobbies and interests they’ll develop themselves. Both of us were lucky to have families that always supported our activities growing up, and we can’t wait to support our future child in that way.
Meet Colleen, by amazing wife, by Ken: Even though I’ve been with Colleen for more than twenty years and married to her for almost 13, she continually finds ways to amaze me. She is smart, passionate, funny, and successful professionally. Above all, she is just a good person who would do anything for the people in her life.
I love that Colleen has made family such a priority in her life, and that spending time with our families always comes first. She is incredibly generous with both her time and with finding little ways to always let the important people in her life know she’s thinking of them with gifts or just a phone call.
Colleen has an uncanny ability to find the best in everyone, and has a passion for righting the wrongs she sees in the world. I am excited to see her pass along the instinct to make the world a better place to our future child and help them become the best person they can. She definitely sets an amazing example for me and, whether she means to or not, pushes me to be a better person.

A Little About The Best Husband You Could Ask For, Ken, by Colleen: I feel like I won the lottery when it comes to husbands. We have been married for almost 13 years and I still feel as excited as I did in the beginning to come home and see Ken. If I’ve had a bad day, he makes me smile, sending me a text at just the right time or dancing around the kitchen while making dinner.
Ken is hilarious, brilliant, so kind, and has this uncanny ability to capture the attention of everyone in his orbit. Everyone wants to be friends with Ken right after they meet him because of his generous spirit…and charismatic personality.
He is the foundation who keeps me grounded and inspires me. He is my best friend, my 4-year-old niece’s “Uncle Fuzzy” (because of his beard), and a magnet for every child we’re around. The way kids are drawn to him and the way he is with them convinces me that he will be the most genuine, loving, and supportive dad.

Meet our amazing family and friends: We are both originally from fairly small towns and were raised in very loving families. Ken has two brothers and Colleen has two sisters. Besides each other, our families are the most important thing in the world to us. Our child will be loved by all the grandparents, aunts and uncles and their sweet little cousins (currently 6 with twins on the way!)
Living in Seattle, we are near Colleen’s mom and sisters. We see them all the time and especially love celebrating Thanksgiving together by hosting everyone at our home. One thing we love about our families is that everyone has a “more the merrier” attitude, so everyone is always welcome.
We fly to Atlanta regularly to visit with Ken’s family in Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. It is non-stop board games and activities with our family, especially our nieces and nephews. They love to play Wii and, while Ken can hold his own, they think it’s hilarious when Aunt Colleen drives off of a cliff in Mario Kart.
Our friends are also a huge part of our lives. We have many that live close, but also have friends scattered throughout the country who we’re fortunate to see or talk to on a regular basis. One of the most important qualities for us in friends is to have people that we love and trust who feel the same about us. We feel like we have that in spades with the friends that we’ve made.
Our Home and Closing Thoughts
Where we call home: We live in a neighborhood in Seattle called Ballard. We moved here 11 years ago and love the community, culture, and activities that the neighborhood has to offer. We have wonderful public schools that are nearby. This is important to us as we want our future child to be able to attend a school that provides not only a great education but is open, welcoming, and diverse.
We are within walking distance to a number of restaurants, parks, & shops with a bustling Sunday farmer’s market. In our home, we share the responsibilities of daily life where we try to make chores fun by doing silly things such as having “folding parties” when the laundry starts to pile up.
We are always grateful to each other for the everyday things that the other does and we want to instill that sense of shared responsibility with our future child.
Four places in our community we love:
• The Farmer’s market in Ballard
• The theater in Seattle
• Indoor and outdoor music venues
• Lake Union and The Puget Sound
Our Hopes and Dreams as Parents: People often say that having a child “changes your life forever” and the two of us can’t wait for that to happen. We both know that this change will be the best thing that has ever happened to us. We dream about taking our future baby on walks, reading to him/her, and doing everything we can to elicit a sweet baby giggle as those are the best.
We want our future child to explore their interests and expect to attend lots of soccer matches, dance recitals or whatever other activity they desire to explore.
We look forward to instilling the importance of family and friends and above all being a kind person who is inclusive of all. We picture being their compass during the hard times and their biggest cheerleaders as they experience the exciting moments life has to offer.
One Last Thank You: We want to say thank you for your COURAGE, LOVE and SELFLESSNESS. We want to assure you that your baby will be so loved. We want to nurture and love him/her, as well as instill good values and independence to handle what can be a very difficult world. We know that we won’t get everything right as parenting doesn’t come with a manual but we feel that our upbringing, our experiences, and the help and love from our friends and family will ensure that your child will always know how important they are and how much they are loved.
