Mark & Melissa
Melissa & Mark
Dear Birth Mother: Hello, we are Melissa and Mark. We are so grateful to you for your courageous decision to choose adoption. We are both excited by the chance to be able to expand our loving family. We also hope to help your baby grow into an amazing person who loves life. Thank you for your kindness AND COURAGE.
About Us, By Melissa: Mark and I met through an online dating app four years ago. We live a mile from the beach in Los Angeles and met on a sunny day at a café right near the ocean. He and I chatted about family and about the places we have traveled, and I could instantly tell that Mark was kind, sweet, attentive and devoted to his family. So, we went on a second date and never looked back! We have been inseparable ever since.
We Will Share Our:
• Passion for music & the arts.
• Fondness for animals & the outdoors.
• Love of traveling.
• Love of reading.
• Curiosity about the world.
We Love To Travel The World Together: We also love to go to movies, concerts and soccer games. We both enjoy playing sports. Melissa plays beach volleyball and tennis. Mark plays soccer. Together we practice yoga, and we go scuba diving in sunny, tropical places.
Melissa is creative: she writes poetry and music and takes digital photos. Mark is a “techie”: he’s into math and sci-fi. We are eager to see what kinds of activities our future child enjoys and to help them figure out what they are passionate about.
We Promise To:
• Love your child unconditionally
• Make your child’s health & safety a priority
• Support all of your child’s passions
• Travel with your child to exciting places
• Value togetherness and family during the holidays
About Melissa: I have always been creative. When I was younger, I kept a poetry journal, played the clarinet and took lots of art classes. I grew up in Los Angeles where I also loved playing volleyball and basketball. I majored in English because I love reading and writing.
During college and beyond, I started a company that made pillows, clocks and candles. I just love making things! That inspired me to go to law school to become an attorney who protects creative people like me. I have a flexible schedule. I work from home 3-4 days per week and have a short commute to my office for meetings.
In my spare time, I write music, play tennis, and take photos of nature. I am an outdoorsy person who loves to camp and backpack. I also love animals and enjoy going on hikes with family, friends and dogs. I look forward to sharing my creativity, my love of the outdoors, animals and photography with my future child. I also look forward to encouraging my future child in whatever he or she might want to try, whether it’s skateboarding or playing the drums.
By Mark: Kids are drawn to Melissa! I have seen her bond with children almost instantly by playing peek-a-boo or just talking to them about what they are doing. Once, while on vacation, two little girls in a hotel pool swam over to Melissa and played with her for a solid hour.
Melissa is a caring, smart, talented woman with a really big heart and enthusiasm for parenting our future child. She is passionate about everything she does, especially for her family and friends. She inspires me with her can-do attitude and love of life. She will be an amazing mother and role model.
Fun Facts About Melissa:
• Loves dressing up for Halloween.
• Talks to pets.
• Hosts homemade pizza parties & game nights.
• Loves movies about music and about sports.
• Has gone on over 100 scuba dives.
About Mark: I’m a big kid at heart. I love Star Wars, soccer, Sudoku, trivia, and reading, like Harry Potter and Game of Thrones. I was born in Florida, but I grew up in South America and Puerto Rico because my Dad works in tropical medicine. I discovered soccer, learned Spanish, traveled to many exotic places, and experienced amazing cultures, people and food.
I teach math at a small college with a diverse student body and love my job because I am able to help many of my students become the first person in their family to finish college. As a professor, I get lots of time off during summers and holidays, and I choose my teaching schedule, so I can also spend a lot of quality time with my family.
I can’t wait to read to our future child, take them swimming in the ocean and coach their sports team if they play.
By Melissa: Mark is loyal and honest. He is also very patient and a great listener. He spends a lot of time helping his students and constantly encourages them. I have seen Mark with tears in his eyes at graduation because he is so proud of his students, some who have thanked him in their graduation speeches for changing their lives for the better. Time and time again Mark shows me that he has a heart of gold.
Fun Facts About Mark:
• Loves Star Wars so much he put Boba Fett & Stormtrooper stained-glass art in our living room.
• Enjoys making music playlists for friends & family.
• Has been to 3 Soccer World Cups.
• Hopes to be on Jeopardy one day.
• Wears colorful, Happy Socks.
Family & Friends
Our Family and Friends: Melissa comes from a small, close-knit family, and we spend a lot of time with her dad, stepmother, stepsister and 4-year-old niece. Melissa’s dad Tim is a college professor, and her stepmom Dede is a kindergarten teacher. They have already offered to help with babysitting.
Mark comes from a larger close-knit family. His Dad is Polish, and his Mom is Nicaraguan. He has two younger siblings, Robert and Laura, and cousins who live all over America and in Europe. Robert lives near us and wants to take our future child surfing and to watch ball games. Mark’s younger sister Laura lives in Boston with her husband Vikram, and they visit us often. Mark’s Mom and Dad are excited about the idea of having a grandchild to dote on, and they have a house in Florida where the whole family gathers at Christmas.
Our Favorite Traditions: We go to a theater festival every summer in Oregon that presents fun plays like Hairspray and Beauty and the Beast. We enjoy the small-town vibe of the festival that has a great bookstore and bakery with Melissa’s favorite lemon meringue tart.
We also go to Europe in the summer because we have friends and family we can visit there. We like to go on walking historical tours and food tours. And Mark loves going to soccer games.
Every Halloween we dress up for a costume contest sponsored by a local charity, and we have won a couple of times. We have dressed as Cat Woman and Green Lantern, Game of Thrones characters, zombies, pirates, and voodoo dolls. It’s great fun, and we can’t wait to pick out costumes every year!
We spend at least two weeks every Christmas with Mark’s family, usually at his parents’ house. We enjoy the time together playing board games, going to movies (especially the latest Star Wars movie), binge-watching TV shows, cooking, and just hanging out.
Our Home and Community: We live in a family friendly neighborhood near the beach with great schools and a pier we can walk to. We have a large backyard with a swing and fruit trees. Many people on the street have young children, including our neighbors who have a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old. There is always something going on. There is a lot we can walk to, and there are so many awesome places in Los Angeles where we can take kids, like Disneyland (Galaxy’s Edge), Universal Studios (Wizarding World of Harry Potter), and the La Brea Tar Pits (saber tooth tigers!).
About Our Cats Henry and Winston:
“About our cat, Henry” Melissa calls Henry the “Prince William” of cats. He’s very dignified and polite. He’s a total lap cat, so he loves snuggling up with us on the sofa when we watch TV. His full name is Henry Wilbur Mouse. “Wilbur” is the name of the pig from Charlotte’s Web, and “Mouse” came from the fact that for the first days Melissa brought him home as a kitten, he was quiet as a mouse.
“About our other cat, Winston” Melissa describes Winston as the “Dwayne – The Rock – Johnson” of cats. He is super athletic and handsome. He uses his paws to pick up his kibble and to drink water. He is really smart, and if he’s not getting enough attention, he will walk right up to you and tap you on the shoulder and meow, as if to say: “You can pet me now”.
One Last Thank You: Thanks for reading our profile and taking the time to get to know us a bit. Your courageous choice to pursue adoption would bless us with a gift of unparalleled love. We promise that we will put our future child first before everything else and love them fully and unconditionally. Rest assured that you will always be a part of their life story. We are eager to welcome your baby into our home and to share a first Halloween dressed in costume as a family!
Thank you for your kindness and courage!
