We respect and admire your courageous decision. We know this is the hardest decision that you will ever have to make and hopefully getting to know us will help put your mind at ease as you consider adoption.
We have both always felt a strong desire for adoption. We admire our friends who have adopted and the difference it has made in their lives. After several surgeries to remove fibroids, we found out that Kali could not carry a baby. We are so excited to grow our family through adoption.
OUR RELATIONSHIP – Told by Matt
Our relationship is built on love, trust, communication and a good amount of laughter. On our first date, I was so taken by how awesome Kali is that I invited her to my house for a cookout with my extended family the next day (an easy no pressure second date). Kali already had plans that day but she did call me on the way home from our first date and texted me first thing on Monday morning. Needless to say we were both smitten with each other and have been inseparable ever since.
THE ENGAGEMENT – Told by Kali
On a weekend trip to Nashville (for pancakes) Matt suggested that we stop at a winery in the mountains. I didn’t know it, but he had arranged to have the winery help him surprise me. Matt said he wanted a picture outside and positioned me facing the camera and said “you stand there and look at the camera and I’ll stand here and . . .” I noticed movement in my peripheral vision, so I turned and saw that Matt had dropped to one knee and pulled out a ring box.
About Matt by Matt
I was born and raised in Georgia. I come from a very big family (I have 6 brothers and 3 sisters) and we are all very close. Growing up in a big family was so much fun. There was always someone to play with. Of course, pretty much all of my clothes were somebody else’s first. After high school, I went to The Citadel, a military college in South Carolina. After graduating I spent 5 years as an Air Force officer, with the last 2 in England.
I returned to the Atlanta area in 2007 and started a business with my brother-in-law. We own a specialty landscaping business. For the last 11 years I have been able to do what I love and truly enjoy going to work every day. I also really enjoy the fact that we are a seasonal business and I am off from Thanksgiving to Valentines day. Being a small business owner, I can make my own hours and always be available for my future children.
About Matt by Kali
Matt is the most awesome guy I know. He is always making me laugh whether it is cracking jokes or interpreting our dog’s thoughts. He loves to laugh and is a huge goofball! Matt has been an uncle since the age of 13. He is adored by all his nieces and nephews. All of them talk about how they always want to go visit uncle Matt.
Matt is also a great provider for our family. He is a great listener and can easily make you feel at ease if you are having a difficult day. I can’t wait to see him become a father!
About Kali by Kali
I grew up in San Diego, California. I have one older sister and a younger brother. In college I majored in Child and Family Development, and after spending all of my life in San Diego, I packed all of my belongings into my two-door Honda Accord and my mom and I drove across the country to Atlanta, GA to take my first job as a professional nanny. Working with children is my passion.
I have assisted many families in raising their children. I currently am a nanny for two amazing 3 and a half year-old twins, a boy and a girl. I love to work with them and watch them grow and learn and reach new milestones. One of my favorite things to do with the twins is taking them to Center for Puppetry Arts to see the puppet shows each month.
I can’t wait to start a family with Matt. By you considering adoption you are helping us fulfill our dreams of having a child. I plan to be a stay at home mom.
About Kali by Matt
Kali is my favorite person. She is kind and caring and always thinks about others first. Kali is an amazing cook and truly enjoys trying out new recipes, which is great for me because I love to eat delicious food! One of my favorite things about Kali is her ability to connect with people and make friends wherever she goes.
Kali loves to laugh and has a great sense of humor. I know that she will make a great mother, she has so much love to give. There is no one I’d rather spend time with, we are an awesome team.
Our Home and Family
Our families are very important in both of our lives. Matt’s family mostly lives in the Atlanta area and we often hang out with them. Matt has 9 siblings and 21 nieces and nephews so your child will have plenty of cousins to play with.
We love to host holiday celebrations at our house and usually have over 30 family members over! For Christmas dinner everyone brings finger foods rather than having a big sit down dinner. It is great fun and we all try to cook up gourmet finger foods (Matt specializes in pigs-in-a-blanket!)
Another favorite tradition of our get togethers is a game called “Big Happy Family” and it is a rite of passage for the younger kids to be old enough to play with the adults. Kali’s family lives in San Diego, California. We try to visit twice a year. Kali’s mom, Maureen, likes to make a few trips each year to Atlanta to see us. Her sister and her husband have two kids age 7 and 5.
During the holidays we all get together and cook yummy food and use recipes that have been in our family for decades. One of Kali’s favorites is chocolate crinkles, basically it’s chocolate cookies rolled in powder sugar.
We recently built our dream home on a wooded 3 acre lot in a beautiful suburb of Atlanta. Our lot has a private lake right next door which is great for fishing and kayaking. We love that it is a nice wooded area (with occasional deer sightings from the back porch) and also has easy access to the city. Our neighborhood is pretty small but we are a short drive from parks and hiking trails. The schools in our area are excellent. We are looking forward to starting a family and raising children in our lovely neighborhood.
