Being such a good team will make us excellent dads! Our family and friends often comment on how well together, whether it is while cooking a meal for others, putting together ikea furniture, or building a family together.
We met online in the spring of 2009 and our first date was a picnic on the beach that Richard prepared. It didn’t take us long to realize that we each found someone to spend the rest of our lives with.
We quickly became best friends through bonding over our many shared interests and goals. After the first six months of dating we both knew we wanted to get married and have a family together.
Four years later when same sex marriage was legalized we committed to a lifetime of happiness in front of family and friends. Our wedding was reflective of both of our personalities, casual, fun, and filled with laughter and joy. We rescued two amazing dogs and a cat that we spend lots of quality time with and can’t wait for our child to meet.
Our Adventures: One of our favorite things to do is to go on adventures, whether it be traveling to visit friends and family or visiting another county to experience learn about other cultures. We also love to be outdoors hiking and exploring new areas. We can’t wait to share our love of learning, traveling, and experiencing new things with our child.
About Richard & About Matt
About Richard: I grew up in Blythe, California, a small town on the border of California and Arizona the youngest of four children. My mother is Mexican and Cuban and his father is Native American, Mexican, and Irish and my cultural identity is a big part of who I am and how I live my life.
My favorite childhood memories include spending time with my family camping, playing sports, and having large meals during the holidays.
While attending college, I became passionate about helping others who come from a similar background as me and continually mentor and give back to others.
As a professor at a college, I have the opportunity to work from students from all backgrounds and am truly honored to get to learn about their stories and share more about mine.
I have many passions and love cooking, building things, playing sports, and being outdoors and can’t wait to share these passions with our future child.
Matt about Richard: Richard is my best friend. We’ve have been through a lot in our almost 10-year relationship and I couldn’t imagine going through life with anyone else.
Richard is thoughtful, loving, and nurturing. My favorite thing about Richard is how goofing he can be. When we are at home, I generally find him singing random made up songs and/or dancing through the house.
Richard’s experience with kids starts from an early age with his oldest nephew and niece. By the time he was 11 he was babysitting his nephew and niece and learning how to best the best uncle he could be. Over time 3 more nephews and 1 niece came and he became known as cool uncle Richard. He has a connection with these kids like no other. Richard immediately lights up with children and always makes everything seem so effortless.
Richard is always there when anyone needs him, including his friends and family. I am fortunate to get to have him in my life and go through this next chapter of our lives with him. He is going to make an amazing dad one day!
About Matt: I was born in Virginia Beach but when I was one year old I moved to San Diego California. Even though I am not a real San Diego native I consider myself to be one since I have lived here majority of my life.
I grew up in the boy scouts and had spent a lot of my childhood outdoors camping, hiking, and exploring nature. This experience gave me an appreciation for the outdoors and even to this day I have a passion for doing anything outdoors.
I work as the Operation Managers for a property management company in San Diego. My job consists of developing new policies and procedures and training all different levels for our onsite staff. I absolutely love my company and what I do on a daily basis. My job gives me a sense of accomplishment but also values a work/life balance.
Outside of work, you can find me at the beach hanging out with friends, discovering new hiking trails, or playing fetch with our pups.
Richard About Matt: Matt has the biggest heart of anyone I know! I can truly say that Matt makes me want to be the best person I can be. He is compassionate, loving, caring, and adventurous and I am so thankful for the last 10 years of adventures we have had together and can’t wait for a lifetime of more adventures as we raise a child. Matt is still a kid at heart and I can’t wait to raise children with him and watch him help our children grow.
Our Family & Friends
We have an amazing network of family and friends both close and far who are here to support us as we embark on this next chapter of our lives!
Our Families: Family is extremely important to both of us. We have a running joke of whose family is more crazy, but usually Richard wins because he has such a large family that is constantly running around. Family time is always filled with kids playing games, playing card games, or cooking in the kitchen which ends with everyone gather around the table to share stories.
We are both close with their parents and siblings and everyone is excited to welcome a new member into the family.
Our Friends: We have an amazing network of friends, many of whom have kids, and will serve as our resources as we grow our own family. We can’t wait to watch our kids play with our friend’s kids, take them to parks and the beach together, and to spend time at home bonding over memories that will last a lifetime!
Our Home: We are fortunate to live in a quiet neighborhood in San Diego close to great schools, parks, and places to spend time with family and friends. We are just 10 minutes from the beach, the world-famous San Diego Zoo and Safari Park, and many other family activities.
We enjoy entertaining friends and family in our home and have created a backyard and living room that is perfect for a family with inspiration from DIY TV shows. We love to eat outdoors and spend time with friends and family by the fire pit.
Meet our dogs and Cat: Fiona, Daxter, and Lily are best friend and love to spend time cuddling, playing, and relaxing. Fiona and Daxter also love to spend time in the back yard, meet new people, and are great with kids. They love when our nephews and nieces and friend’s kids come over to play!
