Matt & Ted
Hello! We are Matt and Ted!
Dear Birth Mother: We would like to start by saying thank you for taking the time to consider us as adoptive parents.
We are a fun-loving couple living in LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA and, after many happy years together, we are ready to grow our family through adoption. We have always known that we would adopt when the time was right and we deeply respect and admire your decision to consider adoption as well.
We have so much love for one another and so much love to give. We promise your child will find unlimited devotion and the brightest of futures should you choose us as adoptive parents.
About Us: Our story began 13 years ago in New York City. Mutual friends brought us to a birthday party and we both vividly remember the first time our eyes met, it was truly love at first sight. The connection was instantaneous and we’ve been inseparable ever since. We spent the whole night by the jukebox buying songs for one another and quickly discovered a shared love of Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and other legendary divas.
We moved in together one year later and, after five years of dating, we were married in Vermont surrounded by our family and friends. Our wedding was even announced in the New York Times and they accidentally called Matt the bride!
Now we live in Los Angeles, where we love the laid-back atmosphere and days filled with sunshine. We are both super active. Matt loves to workout at the gym and you can find Ted at the nearby pool doing laps any time of year. When we are lucky enough to get away, we’re quick to take advantage of all that California has to offer.
We love reading books by a pool in Palm Springs, catching some sun on the sands of Manhattan Beach, and quick getaways to San Francisco, Napa Valley, Disneyland, and Carmel.
I grew up in Manhasset, Long Island, just outside of New York City. While I was smaller than most growing up, you never would have known it by the way I acted. I played violin concertos by Mozart and Beethoven by the time I was ten. I could sit for hours reading thick books that I snuck away from my mom’s bookcase.
I was a varsity athlete by seventh grade, and weekends meant venturing off on my own to visit my brother and sister at their college apartments in New York City.
I went to college in Washington, DC and then returned to New York to attend law school. Since then I’ve dedicated myself to helping people by working at some of the most noteworthy nonprofit organizations in the country.
More About Ted, by Matt: Ted is my best friend. He’s smart, funny, and enormously talented. All four judges’ chairs would turn for him on The Voice, I guarantee it. His personality lights up a room.
Ted is also the most loving, compassionate, and selfless person I’ve ever known. In his work, he has dedicated himself to helping others and at home he is deeply committed to his family and friends. In our thirteen years together, he has taught me to be a better person myself and I am truly lucky to have him in my life.
I am so excited to become a father, but I’m just as excited to experience Ted as a father because I know he will be the best father ever. Ted loves so passionately, gives so deeply, and supports so fully that there will be no limit to where our future child can go.
Ted’s Career: Today I am an executive with a nonprofit organization that provides college scholarships to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students who have lost the support of their family and friends. My job is flexible enough to allow me to work from home whenever I need to. I love being able to work someplace where my main motivation is not to make money, but to help others achieve their dreams.
I grew up in a small town in Connecticut, just outside of New York City. My parents, who are happily married to this day, worked hard to make sure my older sister and I wanted for nothing. They introduced me to the arts at a young age, taking me to see Broadway shows and giving me piano lessons.
I fell in love with music and spent much of my young life performing and playing all kinds of instruments. I’m so thankful my parents gave me the gift of music and I can’t wait to do the same for our future child.
I did well in school and loved books. I remember reading Jurassic Park over my mom’s shoulder on long train rides when I was in fifth grade (she would warn me if the story was about to get scary). I earned my degree from Yale, not far from my hometown, and then started on the path to become an agent in the entertainment industry.
More About Matt, by Ted: Matt is the type of person who gives 100% of himself to the things he cares about. This means he is just as committed to being a star at work as he is to making sure we have a wonderful Christmas with my family, or the perfect Passover with his parents.
He loves candy and romantic comedies, and he doesn’t understand why anyone would ever watch a movie that’s supposed to make you cry. He is smart, he is loving, and he is disarmingly funny. But my favorite thing about Matt is the way he loves the people closest to him.
His devotion to our families is boundless, unquestioning, and protective. I am so excited to see Matt become a dad and to watch how his incredible spirit emboldens and supports our future child. He will be a wonderful father and I am so grateful that I get to be the parent standing beside him.
Matt’s Career: Today I work for one of the largest talent agencies in the world, working with people you see on television every day. My job is exciting and high pressure, but my company believes family comes first and my colleagues are incredibly supportive of our adoption journey.
While my job can be demanding, I always make time for the things that make my life whole. I love being active, so you’ll find me at the gym most days, and family time is everything to me. I’m happiest curled up on the couch with Ted and our dog Murphy… and we can’t wait to curl up with our future child as well!
Family and Friends
Whether it’s for Christmas, summer getaways, or special birthdays, we make it a point to see our families on the east coast several times a year. And since our families live about an hour’s drive apart, we make sure to see as many family members as possible on each trip.
Ted’s sister, Ally, lives with her husband and our two nieces on a beautiful farm, complete with donkeys, ducks, chickens, bunny rabbits, and barn cats. Ted’s mom, Kathy, has a perfect little house on this same property.
We get picture perfect Christmases carrying presents back and forth between houses, singing Christmas carols, and sledding down snowy farm hills on Christmas morning. Ted’s brother, Brian, lives just a short drive away in New York City, making for fun weekends taking in Broadway shows and delicious meals.
Matt’s sister, Jessica, lives with her husband and our niece and nephew in Connecticut, just a short drive from Matt’s mom and dad, Sylvia and Barry. Trips to Connecticut are always filled with music, afternoons in the park playing family softball, yoga classes taught by Sylvia, and tons of food.
Our families are a huge source of joy in our lives. We love nothing more than hosting them in our own home. In the past year we enjoyed taking our nieces to Universal Studios and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and sat behind home plate at a Dodgers game with our niece and nephew.
Our Home and Closing Thoughts
Our Home and Community: Our home is in an area of LOS ANGELES called “MIRACLE MILE”. It has three bedrooms and a large backyard that we enjoy year-round. We are walking distance from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art which is surrounded by gorgeous parks and always has wonderful events for children and families.
Our street is quiet and there are many families, some of our closest friends, and other younger couples like us nearby. We feel very lucky to live where we do.
Our Dog, Murphy: Murphy, is the most adorable 4-year-old terrier you have ever met. We rescued her from a local organization in Los Angeles and she’s been a light in our lives ever since. Despite being less than 15 pounds, Murphy is a big dog at heart. She loves playing fetch with tennis balls too big for her mouth, eating treats the size of her head, and taking up more space on the couch than the two of us combined.
Our Fun Facts:
• We both graduated with honors from college, Matt from Yale and Ted from George Washington University.
• We both love to sing! Matt toured the world with his college a cappella group and Ted was a professional singer before going to law school.
• Saturday mornings are for donuts! We start our weekends with a trip down the street for coffee and the most delicious treats (limit: 2 each!).
• We love the holidays SO much. Fortunately, we can fit a 9-foot Christmas tree in our living room!
• We spent part of our honeymoon in Disneyworld and hope to bring our future child there someday for another magical experience.
Our Promise To You: We promise to give your child a life full of opportunity. Whether it is through music, sports, books, or anything else that brings a smile to their face, we will be fully invested in them finding happiness. We can’t wait for them to experience the world, to celebrate with them when they succeed, to support them if they should fail, and to love them through all of it.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know us a little better! We are so excited to become devoted parents and couldn’t do it without a special person like you.
