Mike & Emily

Hello! We are Emily and Mike from South Carolina

Dear Birth Mother: Thank you for considering adoption and for taking the time to learn about our lives. We are amazed and inspired by the courage you have to choose such a selfless act.

We are Mike and Emily from South Carolina, a goofy fun-loving couple that loves to spend time with our family, friends, and our fur kids! SINCE OUR MARRIAGE WE HAVE DREAMT OF STARTING A FAMILY.

6 Fun Facts:
• We met when we were 10 years old
• We’ve been to 3 proms together
• We drove across the entire country, coast to coast
• We’ve seen both oceans, and both sides of The Gulf of Mexico
• We’ve visited over 30 states together
• We love to be outside, hiking, fishing, or just walking the dogs

Boy Meets Girl: Our love story is a bit cliché. It follows the plot of most after school feel good sitcoms of the mid-90s. Boy and girl meet as children, become friends, start to date to in high school, and fall in love. This is our exact story.

We met as children and quickly developed crushes on each other. In middle school we became closer friends and started spending a lot of time together. In high school we went our separate ways, developing other friendships, until Mike asked me (Emily) to his junior prom, we were inseparable.

Our Story, Continued: On our 5-year anniversary we got engaged in our favorite place, Charleston, SC, it was perfect. On November 1, 2014 surrounded by friends and family we got married. It was the happiest day of our life.

It was a whole new beginning for us, a new chapter. We knew we wanted to start a family right away. After years of struggling with infertility, we realized that starting our family the “conventional” way wasn’t in our path. Both of us talked about adopting one day, but soon realized that it was exactly the way we are meant to start our family.

Through pregnancy challenges and the losses we have faced our love and support for each other has grown and strengthened. The best part of us is that through it all we are still best friends.

Meet Mike

Mike, through Emily’s Eyes: Mike is the most amazing person I’ve ever met. He shows me endless love and support and I can’t begin to express how much I love him. Mike is the hardest worker I know and provides a loving home.

Aside from his amazing work ethic he is the funniest person I’ve met; he never meets a stranger! Mike is a lovable teddy bear despite his size and always has a hug for me when he gets home from work. He loves his cats, Zola and Belle, and isn’t ashamed to tell anyone.

A Little More About Mike, by Mike: Hi I’m Mike. I grew up in Columbia, South Carolina with two older brothers and loving parents. My childhood was great, and my best memories are of me and my family camping near the river. After high school I attended and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Mechanical Engineering degree.

I am currently working for a power company as an engineer and love my job. I get to work with large complex machines and work on fun and exciting projects. A great part of my job is the flexibility I have, I can take time off and rearrange my schedule as needed. This will be very helpful when it is time to care for a new baby!

In my spare time I love to spend time outdoors, traveling, wood working, and spending time with my family. As a child I spent much of my time outdoors fishing and camping. I LOOK FORWARD TO BEING ABLE TO SHARE MY HOBBIES AND EXPERIENCES WITH OUR FUTURE CHILD.

About Emily, though Mike’s Eyes: Even from the first time I met Emily when I was 10 years old, I knew she was special and by the time I was 13, I was head over heels in love with her. Emily is truly a unique person that has brightened my life and everyone else’s that she is a part of. She is the most giving and loving person that I know and will make a terrific mother.

One of Emily’s most enduring qualities is her ability to give the most thoughtful gifts. She loves to give and make others happy. She always remembers everyone’s birthdays even our pets. Emily is extremely close to her mother and they have a great relationship. Her and her mother routinely spend time baking, shopping, talking, and playing games together. They are best friends. I KNOW THAT EMILY WILL BE A LOVING, GIVING MOTHER THAT WILL DEVELOP THE SAME RELATIONSHIP WITH HER FUTURE CHILD THAT SHE SHARES WITH HER MOTHER.

A Little More About Emily, by Emily: I also grew up in Columbia, South Carolina. I’M CURRENTLY A HOMEMAKER AND I PLAN ON BEING A STAY AT HOME PARENT, teaching our children the fundamentals of life and happiness.

I was raised by my mother as a single child, but I have an older brother and sister that I love to be around. My mother is a strong independent woman that has influenced my life greatly. She helped develop my strong family values and my passion for baking. Baking is my favorite hobby and I love to make up and try new recipes. I look forward to teaching our future child how to bake and cook.

I love to spend time with family. Some of my best memories growing up include spending summers with my grandparent and holidays with all my family. As a mother I look forward to traveling and introducing our future child to our crazy wonderful diverse family.

Love Makes a Family

Since our marriage, our families became one large combined crazy bunch! Every holiday and birthday are spent together, and our table is always adding a new chair because we are always collecting more friends to add to our tribe!

Mike has 2 older brothers, Leslie and Brad, as well as an older sister, Joy. Emily has an older sister, Sadie, an older brother, Rob; as well as two older stepsisters, Mikaela and Jeanna. Together we have seven nephews, two nieces, and a beautiful goddaughter!

NOT ONLY ARE WE EXTREMELY CLOSE TO OUR FAMILY, WE ARE ALSO CLOSE TO OUR FRIENDS AND CONSIDER THEM OUR FAMILY.

Favorite Family Traditions:
• Huge dinners with extended family
• Cutting down our own Christmas tree
• Baking a ton of Christmas cookies
• Attending church with family during the holidays
• Birthday celebrations

Our Furry Friends: Lilly was a very shy shelter puppy when we adopted her, she is now a 6-year-old bundle of love! Lilly is the lover of the group and she is especially patient and gentle with kids.

Zola is 4 years old and is the most vocal and friendly cat in the world! Her favorite treat is beef jerky and she loves to play with shoelaces! Zola is a very tolerant cat and will definitely be the cat that a kid can do just about anything to!

Willow is just under a year old and is the most precious angel! She loves everyone and never meets anyone she doesn’t like. Willow has tons of energy and loves to run and play with our best friends 3-year-old.

Belle is also 4 years old and is the cuddliest kitty! She loves eating just about anything and sleeping all day. Belle loves kids, she loves to get kisses and cuddles.

Our Home and Closing Thoughts

Home Sweet Home: We live in a small rural town in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains, Gaffney, South Carolina. THE BEST PART ABOUT OUR TOWN IS THAT WE ARE LESS THAN AN HOUR TO THE MOUNTAINS AND JUST MINUTES TO THE RIVER, PARKS AND CITIES. We look forward to taking our future child to state parks, hiking and re-exploring the city through the eyes of a child.

Our home is a 3-bedroom 2-bathroom ranch on just over an acre of land, plenty of room for a swing-set or slide! The neighborhood is small but has plenty of room to play! Our community is small and very family friendly.

For Your Child, We Promise To:
• Give your baby ENDLESS LAUGHTER and ACCEPTANCE
• Make time for the small things like SINGING SILLY SONGS and DANCE PARTIES
• Check for monsters under the bed and KISS EVERY BOO-BOO
• GIVE YOUR BABY ALL THE LOVE THE WORLD HAS TO OFFER

Thank You! Now that you know more about our lives, THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING US as adoptive parents for your child. We will use the love we have for each other to provide an amazing home. No matter what choice you make we wish you peace and happiness.
