Princess and Emiel
Dear Birth Mother
Hello! We are Princess and Emiel from the Netherlands & United States. Thank you so much for reading about us. From our family history with adoption, we know the love it takes to choose adoption for your child. So please know how much we appreciate your journey and the choice you will make.
Probably the most important thing to know about us is that we are kind, smart, responsible people of faith who ADORE kids. Princess helped with her six nieces and nephews and Emiel has been volunteering and coaching kids’ sports since he was just 12 years old.
Please also know that if you choose us for your child they will have kind, patient, loving parents for whom adoption is a first choice. We always wanted to adopt a child and started adoption preparation classes 4 years ago. So, two years ago when we discovered we couldn’t have biological children without medical intervention, it was a hidden blessing that has strengthened us on this adoption path.

About Us Told by Princess: Emiel and I are best friends, soulmates, each other’s biggest fans, and each other’s greatest helpers in being more kind, loving, patient, perseverant, self-controlled, and humble each day. We are family.
We met 7 years ago when Emiel commented about an online photo of me in front of the Mona Lisa painting in the Louvre (Paris). He said, “I love the million-dollar smile in your photo…and the Mona Lisa is pretty okay also”. Seven years later, Emiel’s cheesy, innocent charm and (groan-worthy) dad jokes still melt my heart.
Six years ago, Emiel proposed to me on my birthday at his brother’s American soul-food restaurant with a red velvet cake that said, “Will you marry me?” Six months later we were married before God and 120 witnesses.
One thing that makes our marriage so strong is that our favorite place is together. We do ice cream walks, food truck festivals, salsa dancing, and nerd-out talking about everything from baseball to quantum computers. We visit foreign countries, go to Disney, concerts, parades, escape rooms, restaurants that serve alligator & crickets – anywhere or nowhere special, as long as we’re together. We also have a mutual Christian faith that is the cornerstone of our marriage. We volunteer together, go to Church together every Sunday, read the Bible together each day, and share a sense of strength & stability in life that comes from belief in a power greater than ourselves. We so look forward to extending our adventures and sense of belonging to a child.
Meet Princess by Princess: I am blessed to be the youngest of 6 siblings raised in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Michigan by two loving, parents (a Preacher and a Doctor of Family Therapy) married 40 years – and a big “village” of extended family.
I graduated High School at 16 years old and helped take care of my sisters’ children while attending college part-time. At 18 years old, love of learning and travel took me to The Netherlands to study Marketing & Technology and later a Master’s degree in Finance.
Currently, I work from home for a large technology company, where I’m VERY proud to be the first black, female Vice President in my division. But my family always comes first and we are blessed that, with Emiel’s job, I have the option to be a stay-at-home parent if that is best for your child. We are just so excited about growing our family through adoption!
More About Princess, by Emiel: The first time my mother met Princess, she took me aside and said, “This one’s a keeper!”. I agreed! Princess’s intelligence and adventurous spirit made me fall in love. She was like this International Woman of Mystery. But I proposed because she was such a good person with a kind heart. Every time she introduced me to friends or colleagues, I was told how Princess did something amazing, kind, loving, generous, etc with them. Driving someone to Switzerland (8 hours away) or helping with a PhD thesis when they wanted to quit or using her vacation to help a short-handed Guatemala support mission – when she sees a need she jumps in. Princess to me represents HOPE (helping other people excel). I know she‘ll make an amazing, loving mother and role model for any child.

Meet Emiel by Emiel: I grew up in a small town near Amsterdam with two parents (kindergarten teacher and scientist, 39 years married) and 2 younger siblings. In high school, I coached Baseball and was a national Track & Field champion. In college, I studied to be an elementary school gym teacher but when I injured my leg, God had another plan. I went to work for a technology startup, met my wife, found my faith, got a Master’s degree, travelled to Africa & America, and am now an IT leader in a big car company. The best thing about my job is that I work only 4 days a week, from my home office. So I have a lot of flexibility for a child. My attitude is that I work to provide for my family – but my goal in life is to be a good person and spend time with my family. I am so excited to grow that family with Princess, through the gift of adoption.
More About Emiel, by Princess: I engraved in Emiel’s wedding ring “Because I see God in you”. I chose that because to me God is love and Emiel is the most loving person I have ever met. He is this funny, silly, affectionate man – that is also serious, patient, kind, compassionate, and so good with people (especially children). Emiel is also incredibly smart. He knows literally something about everything – and is always using that knowledge to help others.
Emiel will be the most loving and dedicated father – the best mix of silly and fun most of the time but very serious when it’s needed. I’m so looking forward to watching a child growing up groaning at Emiel’s millions of “dad jokes” (all of which they will secretly find hilarious – just like I do).

Friends and Family
Especially neat for a child is the openness and diversity of our family.
Our Dutch family is White, Black, Surinamese, and Asian. Our closest friends are African-American, Venezuelan, Albanian, Mexican, Thai, British, Spanish, Dutch, and Caribbean. Our Church services are in English, Dutch, Thai, Papiamento, Spanish, Mandarin, and Twi.
Cool fact about our gatherings- When we BBQ, the kids play together in 10 different languages!
Emiel’s Family: Our Dutch family is equally big on love, laughter, and learning. Emiel has a younger brother and sister plus 14 aunts, uncles, cousins, and nieces/nephews. Emiel’s parents are a math/science PhD and kindergarten teacher who love their family – and even have a 4-day work-week so they have 1 day each week for their grandkids.
We see our Dutch family 1-3 times per week. This is because Emiel’s parents and sister/brother live within 10 minutes, play softball for the same club, and love to eat together and babysit each other’s kids. Emiel’s parents actually live just down the street and are so excited to start loving and spoiling their adopted grandchild.
Princess’s Family: Our American family is a very large, funny, joyful, group of Southerners with more siblings, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, & cousins than you can count. We visit our American family 3-4 times per year – and always find them busy cooking, singing, laughing, or helping someone in Church or the community.
They also highly value knowledge & education. My mother earned her Doctorate part-time while raising 6 kids – my sister is a university professor – my oldest niece is a CEO – and my youngest niece is competing for Ivy Leage College Scholarships. So your child will have many great role models for following their dreams.
Our Commitment to You: If you choose us, we commit that your child:
- Will be loved, hugged, supported, and told how special they are every single day
- Will have the best education possible and parents that help them in all their dreams
- Will have close ties to America (including summer school and holidays in America every year)
- Will have a loving relationship with you as a part of our family (if that’s your wish)
- Will have a happy, joyful life where they learn patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self- discipline, and compassion
- Will know they were perfectly and wonderfully made for a purpose by a God who loves them just exactly the way they are
In Closing: Thank you for taking the time to read about us. Please know that we want to be there for you throughout this pregnancy and beyond. We haven’t met you yet but you’re already in our heart.
We pray for your well-being and have faith that whatever you decide, it will be okay.
