We believe families come together through different routes and want to thank you for getting to know us.
Adoption has always been a path we have considered to expand our family. After infertility made it impossible for us to conceive naturally, we are confident in our decision to move forward with open adoption and feel strongly that our enthusiasm and the support of our families will provide a loving home for our future child.
Over our 10-year relationship, we have found that we are a strong team because we make each other laugh, don’t take ourselves too seriously and are able to handle differences of opinion respectfully. We are always there for each other in the bad times and live life to the fullest in the good times. As with many modern romances, we met online, where we connected on our shared values and favorite activities. Now we spend a lot of time outdoors: hiking, biking, kayaking or walking our dog. We also love reading, doing something creative and traveling, and we generally visit a local bookstore everywhere we go.
Between the two of us, we have a lot of hobbies and interests, and they are ever-growing. Whether they are outdoorsy physical activities, quiet creative pursuits, or planning our next international adventure, there is always something to dive into.
Coming from different cultures, we have really enjoyed learning and experiencing each other’s holiday traditions and cultural norms. For instance, Brandon has learned that in Germany there is a holiday tradition for almost every day in December, and Melanie has come to enjoy a hot dog at a baseball game. We look forward to sharing these cultural traditions with our future child.
I am an energetic morning person, who can’t live without sunshine and a cup of tea. Often, I like to head out for a run on our local trails while the air is still crisp. The rest of my day likely involves trying a new watercolor painting or craft, baking, and/or meeting up with friends.
What I Do for Work: I work from home as a healthcare lawyer. My flexible schedule will allow me to have plenty of snuggle breaks and lunch walks with our future child.
Melanie is loving, caring and fiercely loyal to her friends and family. Melanie is driven and works hard to accomplish any goal she sets, but she also takes time to slow down and enjoy life with the ones she loves. She loves to spend time outside in the sunshine, morning runs, baking, reading and taking Kiko on urban adventures. When I see Melanie interacting with our nephew and her friends’ kids, I just know what an incredible mother she will be based on how loving and patient she is when taking the time to just listen to them.
I am a night owl who loves reading books and trying every local coffee shop. If I’m not reading or working on a model airplane, you can find me on the river trail going for a bike ride with friends and stopping for lunch in the city, where I work in tourism marketing.
Brandon is a very easygoing, patient, and kind person. He is truly capable of giving unconditional love without getting caught up in little frustrations. He is known for being very helpful to friends and family, always willing to help someone move or fix something in their house. He has a creative mind and has taught himself 3 foreign languages. He also enjoys working with his hands on model airplanes and DIY house projects. Otherwise, he loves to read, go on bike rides and drinks at least two vanilla lattes a day. I am excited to see Brandon as a father, because I have seen how playful he is with our nephew, and I can picture him reading books to our future child while doing silly accents for all the characters.
We live in diverse suburban community about 10 minutes from downtown Sacramento and very near the American River. Our house has a large open space for the main room that opens onto our yard and patio. We spend a lot of time outside, barbecuing or playing with Kiko. Our neighborhood has several parks with play areas, and we are just a mile away from a bike trail that runs along the river. We look forward to taking a little one to play with neighborhood kids.
Brandon’s family lives nearby, and his parents’ house is a natural meeting point for gatherings, as they have a pool, large backyard, and barbecue. His sister lives a mile away from them and has a young son, and another on the way. We all enjoy occasional family camping trips on the coast and in the mountains.
Melanie’s family is mostly in Germany, but her brother lives in San Francisco. Since he has his pilot’s license, he often flies up to Sacramento to spend time with us, or pick us up and set off on an adventure. When we visit her family in Bavaria, they love taking us to castles, on hikes, and hosting gatherings with the extended family. We see her family at least once a year between them visiting us and us going to Germany.
We believe our role as parents will be to raise a child who is prepared for everything life throws at them while providing a loving and safe home environment where they always feel they can be themselves. We value honesty, and with adoption we intend to be fully open about their life story and answer their questions openly.
